UK delivery times - questions

Has anyone in the UK had their delivery dates changed as a result of the apparent closure of the factory after the earthquake?

And

How many weeks before collection did your dealer contact you to say the bike was coming in?

My dealer told me about three weeks ago that my bike could be in at the end of July. This is fine, however, if there is a big change in this date I may cancel and reorder next spring. I live in the middle of nowhere with a lot of surrounding water Rather than have 6 or so weeks of riding before putting the bike away for late Autumn / Winter, it may be better to pick it up next Spring.

Hi Marcbc
ordered mine 29 dec for a may build date was told last week could be end of june but won't hold my breath. Even contacted uk but they said it was down to the area rep to track the locality of the bike as uk dont have order numbers. Surprise surprise even he hasnt come back with anything. As for the earthquakes the factory was only shut for one day. This is my first Ducati, and to be honest i'm not impressed with their customer relations

Here is the truth about Ducati:

I dare them to prove me wrong and actually deliver my Panigale, which is priced a way I don't give the crap about any excuse, including earthquakes.

There are a few dealers advertising spare bikes/unsold/cancelled orders in this weeks MCN one is a tric and another S that I know of in Wolverhampton. Why wait and suffer more bullshit? Go take your money elsewhere, after all "summer" is ticking away. Get my Tri 1st of July :-)

I Ride: 1199 Panigale - Non ABS
Ordered mine mid April, bike arrived in the UK mid may, had to wait 2 1/2 week to prep as I was at the back of the queue but got it 29th May.

Ducati Wolverhampton have a Base + ABS (cancelled order) is stock still, as far as I'm aware, sat there waiting for a buyer

That is a good point, perhaps that is the route to go - a cancelled order. I need to give it another month before I can move on that though.

Braintrash, I did think of another brand but the only bike that comes close is the MV Augusta F4RR. That however is not agood physical fit though, so nope, gonna stay with the Pani S

Tried this one, along two others:

- BMW S1000RR -> perfect for beginners.
- Aprilia RSV4 Factory APRC -> between the BMW and the Panigale, sort of consensus.
- MV Agusta F4RR -> The most close to the Panigale, but too much conservative.

As I wanna use my bike daily, MV Agusta is just not possible. It's dashboard doesn't even have a clock. Beginner's stuff is not for me (I am not a champion, but that bike quickly bored me), and the Aprilia is less than the BMW and less than the Ducati; it's an all rounder option when you don't what you want.

So yeah, I'm stuck with Ducati...

And I made a mistake, I let the salesman put June 30th as delivery date. My Diavel came one month early, and I thought that the initial projected date of June 15th would not be exceeded. Then came the earthquake.

I am waiting for June, the 30th, and I also think I will drop a line to Ducati to explain how much I am disappointed by their management.

I have my bike, but I'm also a little dissappointed to hear that in some places people can just walk into a shop and buy one, more or less on the spot, whereas in other places people who ordered one a long time ago are still waiting.

I think that it could somehow(don't ask me how!) have been done better.

Perhaps calling around to a few dealers for a cancelled order, or surplus stock as mentioned above is the way to go.

I would say this, it's a great bike and I think once you ride it, any doubts or annoyance over how long it took to get will disappear. The best things in life don't always come easy

Hang in there!

Hanging in is not really the issue. Although only 11 miles from a main town I live in the middle of nowhere which come October time becomes a small lake and I am too old now to enjoy washing the bike every time I take it out.

Accordingly, if my ordered Panni is delayed say until September time I would only have four weeks or so of (weekend only) riding before putting it away until next spring (there will be a couple of days out in Winter but only that). On that basis, why have a depreciating asset doing nothing in the garage for 5 months or so before I can really play with it. That is why a cancelled order may work at the end of July.

You sure don't look 52.

This aside:

I think I was wrong about Ducati.

Mea culpa.

That is where my bike is coming from, so perhaps there is hope. What is intriguing is that when I ordered my S, they told me it was the 4th to last S they were getting in for 2012 as part of their quota.

2 weeks ago i was quoted August for an "s" by Aylesbury, so I walked out with a base abs - they had 3 in stock. My mate ordered a tri at the same time and collects from Aylesbury 5th July

Are you pleased with your choice? I've also got the standard bike and love it.

Well, not particularly happy at the moment. Per the notes above, I ordered the bike in April with a 6th August delivery, was told it would be in in July and they (the dealer) would hold it for me.

Other than discovering that three people have been put in front of me (fair enough I suppose if they did not have specified delayed delivery dates), as of today there is still no news. No news whatsoever of "my" bike.

Seeing that there is apparently two weeks from shipping to delivery, and not word from the dealer, it is not looking good at the moment until at least 17th (the next date I can pick the bike up. That leaves me approx 8 weekends to ride the bike before home becomes a leaf strewn swamp land and the bike is put away.

I have tried two dealers who are advertising having an "S" in stock - they do not, although there is at least one standard Pani available (not prepared to compromise as I know how I will think whenever I see an "S").

Apologies for the childish rant, but I am now thinking of cancelling until next year. Stupid effing Ducati for bringing out my inner child.

There's 4 Trics sitting in Ducati Leeds, 3 spoken for I think, that leaves one. Get your wallet out!

There should be a spare Tric sitting at SMC Sheffield as my cancelled order allegedly. That's why they are refusing to release my £500 deposit! Again more dealer bullshit and I know 4 other people were put in front of me and I was "2nd" on the list hence the move to Ducati Wolverhampton. When I cancelled the order I was beyond let down and pissed off and I know I may have to write £500 off but the dealer will not get any of my servicing or future purchases and recommendations. Don't feed me bull because I have the ability to shop elswhere.
