Zircotec 3

This product which I have used on my bike under the rear sub frame and seat, plus the guard I installed most positively has helped. Its expensive but well worth it. For pics go to: Heat shield that works. I will post new pics of the shield now its been trimmed and painted when I get home. If you need more info call 520-885-5124 Arizona and I will assist you. I am not charging for the info or any help I give you, I am just trying to help other owner/riders with this model heat problem.

I have ordered a carbon fiber one which I expect any day, I will test it once I get it. However, I do believe anything bolted directly to the pipe itself will transfer heat I am trying to mount all I get or design to be attached away from that horseshoe part of the exhaust.

I have my pipes wrapped which did help somewhat, regarding the subframe I cut a piece of Zircotec 3 with the glue already on it and attached it to the underside of the rear subframe it was a great help. In southern Arizona its a great place to do testing due to the normal daytime temps being so high

I have ordered a CF one, it should arrive any day I hope, I will then try it to see how it helps.

Here are pics of my heat shield, and I can assure you you can ride the bike without burning. You can still tell its hot because heat rises, but this shield stops the Ohlins rear shock from cooking, the ECU getting hot, and your rear end and thighs from roasting. I also have Zercotec under the subframe between my shield and the subframe itself, plus I have coated the underside of the seat with Zircotec 3. I also have no hot start issues.

As chilly as it was on this morning's ride into work, I'm kinda liking the extra heat.

Just and FYI. I dropped my bike off this morning at my local Duc dealer to have the recall work done. Before, I left I stopped by the sales area to speak with the Ducati sales manager. After some small talk he said "Ducati was working on a fix for the heat issue for existing and new bikes" and that he was hopping to have the fix before the end of the year. The fix supposedly includes a larger heat shield with heat reflecting material and a cover for the rear cylinder head that will also be lined with this reflective material. He didn't say whether this would be a recall/no charge item to existing owners or a paid option. So it's safe to assume the 2013.5 and 2014 models should have fewer heat related issues?

I applaud your efforts, but please, i beg of you, replace the hardware store fasteners with something deserving of a Ducati.

I was at Ducati Dallas (AMS) just yesterday and one of the guys mentioned that Ducati is providing an add on kit that has been designed to address the heat issue. Apparently it's some metal and plastic bits to block some of the front and rear cylinder head heat as well as the rear header tube. Don't know much more than that...

I didn't ask if it was a recall type kit or if I had to purchase it. I'll follow up and post here...

Just talked to Sophia at Ducati Dallas (AMS) and she said that they don't know anything at this point. Just that there's some kit that Ducati will be providing to address this issue. She doesn't know timing or anything more...

If this stuff is actually necessary to make these bikes comfortably ride-able, why don't they come from the factory with it installed in the first place?

it's not necessary. you can refuse the "stuff" if and when it is offered.

i applause the manufacturer for addressing issues in the field as they develop rather than ignoring them. car and bike manufacturers do it all the time and i am happy to see them take care of existing owners rather than simply implementing a change "from the factory" in the next model.

that being said, many of us in the northern hemisphere have the luxury to wait several months for a fix. i rode yesterday (70 degees F) and didn't feel any excessive heat whatsoever and the ride was "comfortable."

Probably the heat issue that lots of folks are complaining about and the same one that Ducati's supposedly working on as stated in post #49.

Just a guess.
