Panigale Crash Damage - Same as any other bike?

Has anyone crashed a Panigale yet, other than that racer in South Africa who tumbled his at high speed 30 feet in the air? I keep hearing about how the Panigale can't survive a crash, and I have yet to see any crash other than the aforementioned South African crash, which looks like it would have destroyed pretty much any bike. Anyone else crashed one and found an excessive amount of damage? I look at my bike, and I think "I don't see anything more vulnerable than any other bike I've had". What do the rest of you think, does your Panigale strike you as particularly fragile?

IMHO, Yes I do believe that its a trade off...lighter/faster bike = a more fragile bike, add to that the fact that there's no frame and no where to put frame sliders and yes I do believe that it makes for a bike that might not fair so good in a crash, but only time will tell.

my bike was knocked over by a chick reversing her car. The quote ended up being 7k all up worth of damage.

the right hand side handle bar snapped off, scratch on the front right fork, clutch cover cracked and spilled oil everywhere and 2 fairings replace.

You have most of the engine covers made of Magnesium which is soft to start with and from the amount of damage from my bike falling over. I think if you had an accident kiss it goodbye.

Scary Stuff. Sorry to hear that. I wonder if it would fare any better with race plastics on.

Unhappy

I crashed today.

Came into a tight left hand turn, not too fast but hit some grit and slipped.

Don't know full extent of damage yet but here is what I can visible see wrong:
  • Broken front right mirror,
  • Bent front brake lever,
  • Scratched clutch cover (minor)
  • Dent in exhaust pipe (piece sticking out through lower faring on right)
  • Broken faring by rear of seat (one directly behind rider with two holes in it)
  • My entire bike was covered by a paint protection film which ended up being scratched on only a few places on the tank and nose fairing.
  • On the lower right fairing it looks to have gone through the paint protection a bit but no cracks.

I managed to ride home fine. My concern is what cannot be seen.

Front went first into ditch so risk to fork, wheels and frame I suppose. Will know more by end of the week.

Funny you mentioned this. I was shopping around for a track bike and came across wrecked Panigale.

Don't know ?

A couple of weeks ago , somebody tried to sit on mine in an underground car park while no one was around and ended up dropping it on the right side

The extent of damage is as follows:

Squigly shaped scratch near the tip of the front nose cowl.
RH Mirror scraped on the end.
Front brake lever scraped on the end.
RH Bar End dinged up.
Lower Tripple tree has a RH steering stop broken clean off.
Tripple trees are out of allignment (can't lock steering at full RH lock)
Lower RH belly fairing scratched below front exhaust header. Also barked up in the area of the Rear Brake Lever.
Carbon Clutch Protector barked up around lower corner.
Rear brake lever scraped on the end. (possibly bent ?)
RH Foot Rest scraped on the end.
RH Foot Rest Mounting Bracket bent inward.
RH Termi heat shield scraped near the front fastener.
LH Rear Cowl scratched on the outer most corner.
Oh, i almost forgot the light scratch in the clear coat about 40 mm long on the top of the tank on the LH side.

I reckon they didn't even get to sit on it, as they were probably a bit verticaly challenged. When they tried to swing their leg over it's connected at the back on the Rear Cowl, knocking it away from themselves and to the right.
They've shit themselves and let go of it. (the steering was locked to the left)

At least they were kind enough to stand it back up.
Maybe school kids on holidays, then made a run for it after that.
Or just someone that's not used to bikes.
No cameras in the car park

I suppose they were pretty cool, up until they dropped it.

Maybe as previously mentioned with the lightweight design, a hard landing at some speed may right these things off before a machine that has a frame. (Too many variables) I would expect as much though, and did factor it in when purchasing.
I this instance, i don't think it would've made any difference if it had a frame or not.
But i don't care.
The machine's magnificent

The only bright side is that the RH Lower Belly Fairing will likely be replaced with the 2013 version.

Regards,
Brad

$16k and three months.... Still don't have it back yet. Rode home, scratches and damaged left clip on and broken gear lever. Insurance has replaced forks, swing arm etc.. Crazy. As there are no service manuals, it makes the labour cost on this a write off, but no bike and still waiting.
Very low speed crash. Lower triple clamp steering lock stop is very very soft, broke clean off. Guess that is expensive. Falling off on the right hand side would be better!

I was sitting at a red light and got hit from behind. He hit me hard enough to knock my arm out of socket and the bike fell on its right side. It ended up doing a little over 2K in damages to the bike. It broke the license plate holder and put some scratches on the right side. The handle bar sliders and wheel sliders I put on saved it from further damage. The paramedics helped me with my arm and that was that. I actually expected the bike to be in worse shape but it faired well.

What side did it fall on on, and what brand sliders, and what positions did it hit? (f/r) I dislocated an arm many, many years back in a bike wreck. It came out multiple times after that for various reasons, I had to learn to pop it back in myself - ouchers!

Lowsided mine at about 30mph in a lefthand hairpin; broken shifter, scraped lever, bar end and footpeg. Small scratch on the middle fairing that was easily removed with some light buffing.

Crashes pretty well IMO

I have already low sided mine at decent speed other than the usual cosmetic stuff it was up and running quick if it wasn't for a broken selector pin .
Had it usable the next day crashed on the shock side as well .
Had a fellow racer hit a tyre wall front on at 180 k plus he had it up and running in a week other than killing the front everything behind the dash was fine had it been a older model bike it would have been a new frame .
