What extras came with that? Is it worth it over the S touring? Or were you more swayed by the cosmetics in general?

Tons of carbon and the end pipe etc. it roughly the same price if you add all the bits but looks far better. I got free panniers and top box from the dealer worth over £1k so happy. Got red panniers and white top box to keep the theme going.

Done 200 miles in first 24 hours and I'm very impressed. Goes like stink in sport. Is very comfy In touring mode two up. Urban is easy riding. Ain't tried enduro yet.

I need a taller screen though, the carbon one feels like a monster, the standard one hits me right on the top of the helmet. I think it would e improved with a steering damper too, not for head shake but the steering is too fast, too floppy at low speed.

Ps spent the last three months telling everyone here how high and wide the bars are on the 1199 in comparison with the 1198. Then jumped on it today after two days on the strada, jeez felt like my knees were touching and my hands were 6" apart lol.

It's going to lead to a lot of hard decisions in the mornings before riding to work!

I would vote for the Multi.
Very good bike for touring!

Currently I have:
Triumph Tiger for touring.
KTM 690 SMC R for city hooligan style riding
Yamaha R1 for track and spirited riding. This will soon be replaced by the Pani S, hopefully sooner rather than later.

I have an 1199 Tri colore and a MS 1200. ( and a Monster 696
I LOVE the MS 1200 and my vote for you would be to get one of those.
Its just an awesome bike on so many levels.
Took it to Sedalia MO from Indianapolis last weekend for the BMW rally held there.
Lots of cool bikes there for sure but none I would have traded my Multi for and it got lots of looks.
Its a fanstatic touring, is fast and a great handling bike.
We took the scenic route back and ended up on some very small roads that had signs that said " construction, watch for fresh oil and gravel"
Just what every motorcyclist wants to see.
Put it in enduro and trekked on.
It was an awesome ride and I can't wait to take it on another trip be it several hundred miles up up the street to run and errand.

Tough choice. IMO they are all great bikes. I owned a 12GS for yrs and put 80,000 km on it in 2 seasons. IMO it was perfect, a true hand in glove bike from day one on it. I loved it and TBH no bike has provided that perfect mesh since. I cannot speak for the others in the same context as I have not owned them but riding the old style Multistrada I thought it might have been a cool second.

I have not ridden the Tiger or Multi.

I have owned and ridden R1200GS and love it. Rode it across outback Australia with no bother, properly flipped it a couple of times and just picked it up and kept going. I buy the hoopla about BMW's reliability. The GS is as at home on the road as it is off.

I note your list is geared towards multi-terrain bikes. Are you planning on off road riding or have you chosen this class and frame geometry for another reason? If you are not planning on off road, can I recommend you consider the K1300S, like other members on this thread? I owned and rode that in Europe and it toured like a dream. Loads of power. Great design and aerodynamics - very little buffeting at speed equals low stress over long distances.

I found an indicated 280kph on my earlier stock K1200S (with panniers!) with a little extra room in top gear before I ran out of road. On my stock K1300S I found an indicated 290 kph.

The K is better at commuting than a multiterrain bike, in my view. Multiterrain bikes are too wide for city traffic and unless you are enjoying those big front forks off road somewhere, all they do on road is make things squishier and add fork dive when braking. The K is narrower, and if you really want, the mirrors fold in like the Pani, for filtering in traffic. Very steady power curve in city traffic - so you have lots of control, and no champing at the bit. Also the BMW ABS is excellent, I was a regular user whilst commuting if someone cut me up. Oh and don't forget those heated handgrips. Call me a pussy, but on a chilly winter's day nothing beats 'em!

Having owned about every type of bike (Have 1199, Harley) I would give the MS a go. It has the same motor qualities as the 1199 but is VERY comfortable for all sessions. i also believe the K1300S is worthy of a test ride. The 4 cyclinder is very smooth and could give you touring, commuter and two up options.
