Still smoking royally on first startup of the day after 3,300km. On the screen issue - Does anyone who has fitted this think that they are getting air driven more directly at their helmet in normal road riding? I feel like I'm getting more neck strain. Maybe I'm just riding faster now? |

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the idea with a taller screen is that you're suppose to be low and behind it as to eleviate the issue you're having. What you're saying makes sense if you're sitting upright. This bike is meant for the track where you would never really be fully upright. As for the smoke... My tech said to wring it out more often to seat the rings. The smoke should subside after everything is seated. That's what I got out of it anyhow. He also said don't run the bike often for periods of time while just sitting still. |

I mentioned oil on my termi cans. I believe he said that's caused frOm the rings not being seated properly yet too. It runs down and collects in different parts of the motor while not being used. We talked about a lot of things during my first svc so don't quote me on any of this. Just trying to remember bits and pieces. The biggest thing I got out of it was USE the Rpms. He said in his experience so far the people that really used the Rpms arent having smoke issues any longer. People like me that went about the break in period per Ducatis advice were still smoking. I wrung it out a few times but didn't ride it like I stole it. |

From the first time mine was started it has never smoked......Im just wondering if it is not an issue anymore on the later models. I have still got the small screen on and when I tuck right into the bike I dont have any problems...I am 5'10. But sitting upright I get the full force. This is a tiny bike and to get both screens working to your advantage you really need to tuck in. |

For the record - no more smoke on startup 3,600km.

I would never ever say I profess to know the correct way to to anything, much less offer anything other than personal experience when it comes to breaking in new superbike - which this is my 4th new Ducati. However. I've been saying this since the first thread on thots and done my break in my own way like you all did. I ran the dam thing HARD and used every dam option it came with numerous times! Not one puff of smoke seen after day one picking it up from dealer! Hate to see and hear all you guys still having this issue out there. Perhaps it's time to try a different approach to things? Ill shut my mouth now and will not ever say I told ya so. (Oops) lol. |

Had smoke while running in (first 1000km) After that my dealer swapped the Shell oil for Motul 300v, never smoked since |

At the MotoGP at Laguna Seca, at Ducati Island there were several informative displays focused on the engine. The mechanic explained that the new engine has a relief valve that opens during start (low rpm) to minimize the the compression and therefore requiring a smaller starter motor and battery. As the rpm increases on fire up, the relief valve is closed by centrifugal force. Therefore the bit of oil that comes on the start is completely normal. Obviously I am not a mechanic but I'm sure there's one out there in the forum who can run with this thread.
