Marzocchi Forks

Went to the track yesterday, took the bike out of the trailor only to find out that there was no more damping in my forks, only springs. Turned all adjustments to full closed with no effect.
Took the bike to the dealer this morning. Any ideas of what could be going on?

Sounds like you may have blown a seal. Did you compress the shocks a lot with the tie downs?

+1

Had that happen to my old bike once, tied down the bike over night inside a van and busted the seals. Cost me 2x fork seals, a can of fork oil, and half a day in the garage.

Don't think it's the seals, there's no oil leaks.
Lots of trailoring though.

Those forks are gas-pressurized, so maybe the tying-down has somehow resulted in a loss of gas pressure? Not sure how that can happen, haven't taken a set of those apart yet to see how they're put together.

Got news from the dealer; Nitrogen bladders are busted in both legs, probably the result of tying it down too many times.
Parts are on their way but I'll be bikeless for at least a week.

I highly recommend an axle bar trailer stand if you can use one, it really saves fork seals ( and apparently nitrogen reservoirs too) when hauling to the track.

Ironically, the day my forks busted, UPS delivered the Pitbull system to my doorstep. Had them ordered about 10 days ago after watching some folks load their bikes
Been using tiedowns for 20 years without problems but apparently the pressured forks don't like that too much.

i will be using a front wheel chuck, fixed to the trailer bed, the t-rex rear stand (will fix it with screws temporarily), will tie down the wheels (!) and secure the bike to both sides of the trailer, horizontally, means pulling on the forks (side/forward) and the passenger pegs (side/backwards)

just hope u-haul won't mind the holes in the trailer's bed...

tying down too many times or tying down and compressing hte forks too much?

I know on regular forks they should be compressed no more than 50% of travel.

How 'bout that:
Took my bike in last Thursday with blown cartridges, was told I'd have to wait 10 days at the least since it was the first case on record and there was a holiday week-end in Italy. Got the call this morning at 09h00:"Your vehicle is ready, Sir". On top of things, their only Ducati Tech came in during his vacation to put it back together. Went to pick her up tonight and left a bottle of Tommasi Ripasso fot the man.

so have we determined this was caused from tying down and compressing the forks too far?

Or do we know?

Too much tying down seems to be the cause indeed. Four trackdays so far and on top of that I took the bike with me on vacation where it was tied down for several days.
I was honest about it with the service manager since it was very important to me to identify the cause.

Three weeks later, forks are busted again....sitting in the garage bench racing with a few buddies, we heard a hissing sound as if a tire went flat. Since there were several bikes and other equipment we didn't make much of it. Arrived at the track saturday morning my forks were again reduced to pogosticks
This time around there had been no tying down since I got the pitbull system in my trailor.
