Longest single run I've taken yet on the Pani

100 mile runs had been my usual long rides until today.

Took off from Nassau county, Long Island at 6:30 am. Met my buddy in Brooklyn on his bike, grabbed a nice 6 egg white omelet and some Joe and we blasted through the Battery tunnel at full tilt...man this bike can assault he ears in a tunnel!!

We ripped up throughout the west side highway of manhattan to the George Washington bridge and caught the Pallisades parkway north to Bear Mountain, which is in the NYS Park system...no LEO's to be seen!!

Clear great day for a run...saw several Duc's and KTM's and Aprillia's there on Bear mountain. Took in the scenery for 5 mins and got back on the road to 7 lakes drive through a state park...beautiful views and no traffic.

At the end of 7 Lakes is a town called Sloatsburg..at that point needed to fill up as we had run 110 miles at at time and I was in the fuel reserve zone.

Got back on the road and decided to reverse our trip as the twisty's were fun and the roads were still clear.

Got back into manhattan and took a slower ride south and once back through the tunnel, it was time to turn it up again and cruised home the last 25 miles in just under triple digits for most of the way for a total of 220 miles of continous seat time minus gas time and the stroll at the park.

I can see myself doing 300 miles at a clip if needed, but the knees started to feel a little stiff after 220

My standard seat with the Louimoto cover was very comfortable. No complaints.

Engine temps hovered near 170- 180 for most of the highway parts

Bike is running like a raped ape after 2200 miles

Love this machine!!

Ditto from the UK, perhaps not with such great views though. Mind you the South Downs are pretty impressive from Goodwood Race Track.

I did 226 miles today, albeit with a good break for lunch and two fuel stops. All on the race seat. No problem with knees, but my lower back (which is damaged anyway) is seriously not happy and my right wrist was in pain whilst on the bike at the end.

I too did a tunnel, boy what a blast. Apparently the girl riding behind on her bike could feel the noise in her chest!

Not as fast as you, but then I also had a lucky escape when 5-0 buzzed me and put on their rear signal which told me to slow down. That kept me calm for a while as I had not been looking in my mirrors as oftern as I should have been,

Marc,

Glad to see a fellow iron bottom. ...used to cruise 3-350 miles on my Hogs, but this bike is a little more demanding physically. Forgot to say that my buddy and I got pulled over on the way back by thhe 5-0... 20 mph over the limit at that moment. (good thing he didn't get us when it was 50 over!!!)

He was about to issue the tickets when I thought it wise to inform him that my buddy and myself are police surgeons. That and ex-military ID's got us a free pass!

Longest I ran so far is 100 miles and it is raining here...

I need to get some miles up after my first 1,000km service.

Just watch out for the radars and lasers on Palisades Parkway in NJ area...

hey RSR i was at the same place yesterday. i left at 8 am to meet up with a few buddies in nj. then we shot up the thruway and met 2 more guys. (i was with all Harleys and me the lone 1199.) we went thru orange and rockland county up somewhere by the us military academy but the best road up there (100s of bikes went up came right back down) was closed for some reason. i know we were somewhere by 9w also the view was incredible. mid day i needed gas stopped at a station where there was about 6 sport bikes all ducs except for one. a bunch of 1098 and 1198. the yellow on the 1098 is awesome (wish 1199 came in yellow) and one desmo couldn't believe it. (whats up Hugh if your reading this.) Real nice guys all the riders i was with and all the riders i met. I have one thing to say. THE WHOLE HEAT THING IS BLOWN WAY OUT OF PROPORTION. I will say it gets hot after a while if you are wearing shorts but I wore regular Jeans yesterday and i road from 8 am to 2pm not one bit of a problem. In all i road for about 200 miles and now my bike is ready for first service and then i can finally go past 6000.

There are lots of great roads up that way, Rt. 218, Rt. 301 from Cold Spring to Carmel, 44/55 out of New Paltz to Rt. 28A around the Ashokan Reservoir, love all of those.

You get used to the position. Wrists/arms/legs/back all build up the necessary muscles you need to put extended miles on the bike, just like any other physical activity.

The only long-distance trouble that wasn't getting easier was the under seat heat, which has been solved (mostly) with header wrap.

I've ridden up to 300 miles in one day on the Panigale, with the stock seat fitted, and it was fine, I could have gone further if needed. I once tried to ride 200 miles to a hotel after a day on track with the Daytona doing a CSS level, only to be caught in thick fog and not arrive at the hotel until near midnight. It nigh on crippled me and I could barely stand up when I got (fell) off the bike. Never again! The Panigale is much nicer over long distances and I don't find heat an issue at all. By contrast, the Daytona's cooling fans blow huge amounts of hot air at your legs whenever you get caught in traffic. The Panigale doesn't do this. The only time I really notice the heat is at slow speed in town while wearing jeans and then its only when you clamp the tank with your knees.

I'd also agree with what RSR said, my bike has covered 3000 miles and with hindsight I'd say it really does take a lot of miles for the superquado to fully bed-in and loosen up. The 1500 mile run-in looked like overkill when I first got the bike, but maybe its warranted. At 3000 miles the bike sounds different, less mechanical noise, and it just gets better as the miles accumulate.

Just did the Washington North Cascade Loop with the Race seat. 460 miles and only stopping for gas. Agree with what is said here. Have to work up your core strength so you don't put too much weight on the wrist. She's a workout for sure.

Or maybe you just got used to the sound? :P

I rode 400km the first day I got the pani and the next day the bike sounds different from stock.
