621 is the magic number, then b0ll0x.

With 440 miles on the Pani, thought I should at least get it up to it's first service.

Went out for a run yesterday:

Home - Inveraray - Dalmally - Oban - Ballachulish - Tyndrum - Callander - Home.

260 miles to be precise.

Just as I came into Tyndrum, I got the 1st service reminder at exactly 621 miles, followed by an extra 2000rpm!

So dash now looks like this:

Yellow did start at 6k, now it's 8! Woo!

It was wet for most of the journey, esp Inveraray, where I was hit with a torrential downpour just as I got to the bridge. Damn lights!

Oban was nice and sunny:

And once I got back to Tyndrum, the roads started to dry!

Then I noticed this when I was cleaning the bike:

700 miles old.

Bollox.

If it isn't as deep as your profile, there shouldn't be a problem.

How do you know which way the tip points though

Sort of thing you pull at outside the tyre shop.

Regardless of direction, I'll just get it changed. Better safe than sorry. I've noticed another crack in the tyre anyway.

Alb, that 8,000 line is because then engine is cold. As it warms up that line will climb north to 11,000.

Not according to the manual, next 900 miles not exceeding 7000rpm. Just in case anyone wants to follow the rules.

Great photos. I had a flint chip in my rear tyre last week, noticed it when I got home, pulled it and flattened the tyre - 800 miles only!

New one cost £196 this week. Had to borrow a torque wrench to nip the wheel up to 230n. Luckily i had the the nut tool which was the same size a my old multistrada.

Thanks! That place - Oban - is only 100 miles from my house! Roads are pretty much empty! If only the weather was always like the pics, I'd never leave the country!

well,i think they meant to say that after 1st oil service, it´s not a "sine qua none" condition,i mean, you can ride it by the book, or by your will, since you´re not on redline constantly ( track only use ) ,i personally gave up of checking rpm all the time like before service.

I did until the first service, then I gave up, it's saw 9.5 quite often in the next 900 miles. Just couldn't help myself!

my tech told me you could lose as much as 5%-10% power if you do not run in properly. which also means you could gain as much as 10% more power than another 1199 if you do the proper run in. also throttle has to remain gradual.

i think i will stay true.. although it was really tempting.

will the "oil service" go off on its own or do I have to take to a dealer to turn this off? there isn't a dealer here so it would suck if it wont go away.

any help?

Sucks to get a nail in the tire at 700 miles.. That's why I bought the 2 year wheel and tire warranty from the dealer, cost $250 and covers up to two tires and wheels per year of warranty coverage. I didn't get the Ducati extended warranty, as the bike already has a two year factory warranty and I don't really keep bikes for two years anyway, but also because it doesn't cover wheels or tires. The separate wheel and tire warranty does and is a pretty good value at $250 for two years of coverage.

After reading this thread I wawatching my display as I neared 621 mi. When I hit it, a rectangular red warning box briefly displayed. Then, as luck would have it, I immediatelty rode through a brief shower, then I arrived a bit damp. So needless to say I have yet to enjoy the post breakin HP!! Look out for for me tomorrow!
