I am looking at buying a Garmin 660 unit and would like to know if anyone has one of these fitted to their 1199? I will be doing regular trips to Germany and Holland with an occasional trip to Italy and maybe also Ibiza so the maps offered with this unit are ideal for me I just wondered how it fitted with the mounting bracket and how it looked being such a big unit? I have a 660 but have not fitted it yet. The size is an issue in my mind, it will fit but looks too clumsy and obvious. I am now thinking of a 350 which is slightly smaller and a better fit. I did discover a temp fix on Friday when I had to go to an unknown address in Coventry. My Garmin 800 fits over the yoke using the cycle mount and bands. For me, it was superb. A 10 hr battery life means no hard wiring. It is small, very discreet, fits in a pocket and is not obvious when on the bike. Yes, a small screen but very clear. No Bluetooth though so one needs to look down every so often to check for turnings. |

I'm using the SW-Motech Engage Sport tank bag with the GPS mount option right now. It holds the 660 out of the line of sight of the gauges and in an easy to operate position. Before this, I just stuck it in the clear pocket of the Ducati Accessory tank bag. For power I have a cable which plugs into my Battery Tender charging tail. I prefer tank bags GPS mounts over fixed mounts, since they allow me to move the GPS unit between bikes without having to have a mount on every bike and they make it easy to grab everything of value off the bike when necessary. |
