Getting ready for the track with the latest from Heroic racing apparel

Thought I'd let you guys in on a little "well known" secret in AMA circles regarding Heroic Racing Apparel.

Was fitted and took delivery of my new track suit and gloves and could not be happier. The owner, designer and CEO of the company, Todd McNabney, could not have been more accommodating and knowledgeable.

My suit fits like a second skin and his use of kangaroo skins and stingray skins in his suits and gloves at the sliding points makes for an incredibly safe and durable product. Zero restriction in movement, and I don't have to walk around like a hunched over monkey while wearing it!

He has been supplying and sponsoring several of the top riders in AMA SuperBike and Daytona series. He has a whole "museum" of used suits from his pro riders, some with over a 100 documented slides on them...zero perforations! I examined them myself.

I got a custom suit for off the rack price of other companies with much more attention to detail of manufacturing than any other company. Todd and his crew can be seen at many events ready to support any changes needed at trackside as well as emergency repairs. Nice touch for a small and growing company.

Anyhow, for anyone looking to buy a new suit and wants that personal touch for an irregular and hard to fit body type like mine (body builder), then drop Todd a line. He will answer all of your questions.

Neither did I until I started noticing half the grid on some races were wearing this gear. Sick stuff. The gloves are amazing, feels like I was wearing them for years. Usually I do a couple of workouts in my gym (at home) to break new gloves in and give them a stretch....not needed in this case.

Suit breathes even when sitting in the sun. I'm psyched.

RSR do you know if he does women's suits? I would assume so since they are custom but want to be sure. My wife has a large chest size for her height and finds it very difficult to get anything to fit properly.

I've got a suit and gloves. Love the gloves, but the suit (custom) came with sleeves about 2" too short.

Todd was cool with trying to get it fixed, but everything is in storage now, so I'll deal with it when I need to. Keep in mind, though, that Heroic does custom work, meaning you have to be patient. It's not like ordering Dainese online from motosuperstore.

I asked Todd about the shorter sleeves; he likes them shorter (not sure about the 2 inches)to fit better in the gloves. Race suit sleeves shouldnt end at the top of the scaphoid bone, like a wet suit or other gear, else a constricting compression pinch point can occur over the course of a day while underneath the gauntlets.

Check out the pic of one of his sponsored riders, Santiago Villa with Martin Cardenas And observe their sleeve lengths...def looks about an inch and a 1/2 short, right?

I'm actually going to have mine shortened a little more and maybe a little expansion section in the biceps area. Best part is he's practically in my back yard and I can just drop in and watch him do his magic.

Have someone send me that suit and I'll drive it over to him, or I'll take you over when you get to NY to get it fixed.

I have tried heroic racing. I've been looking for custom gloves and was hopeful when I was told he could make custom gloves while at an AMA race event. I was measured by Todd and waited 4 months for the gloves to arrive , I was patient since I couldn't find anyone else to make custom gloves. When the gloves came they were too short(fingers), called Todd and he apologized and another 3 months later I had another pair they didn't fit quite well, little finger was too long and glove was kitting pressure points. Called Todd and agreed to keep glove and try to break it in but requested another custom pair this time I provided hand print with measurements. It's now another 4 months later and no reply. At this point I guess Todd gave up on making custom gloves. My plan was to start with the custom gloves and if this works go with the suit.

September will make it one year since I embarked on this journey and still don't have a glove that fits.

Point of this is that mistakes can happen with custom gear so some patience is required.

I must say Todd was accommodating and reachable too bad it didn't work for me.

Todd's stuff is absolutely the best, and he is an innovator. I'm sorry to hear about your gloves, but they are amazing. I have used all the best and his gloves are so much more comfortable and strong than the others for the same price. The shorter sleeve, and traction material on the inside of the leg (no stomp grip needed) are just some of the cool innovations.
Does he make womens suit? Absolutely, and they fit right! Todd came from the fashion industry. He realizes womens suits fit different. He has also made some sweet looking womens jackets. If you are in the northeast stop by a trackday or a race, as he is usually setup selling AND doing on the spot repairs to all brands of leathers. BTW, hes a really cool, funny as hell guy too!
