Personally don't have one, but 90% of the guys in our club here who do, seem to go with the Go Pro. I think we have only 2 guys with something else, 1 has a contour and one has something with a GPS which is nifty but haven't seen him much so couldn't tell you. Go Pro seems good quality and atleast here, dominates the market. They use mounts from "Ram" which seems to allow you to mount them pretty much anywhere. Hope that helps. |

I have both the GoPro and Contour+. I prefer the contour+. Both take excellent video - but my main preference for the Contour+ are - it can get to a standard tripod mount quicker (with the bottom bracket) and easier to mount with any sort of standard mounts (RAM, panavise, etc) -You can mount it at any angle and zero it to the horizon with the rotating front lens. Makes mounting on side fairings, rear tail sections much easier. -It is much easier to get to record easier. Just slide the top switch and its recording. Slide it back and its off. .. fat fingers in gloves can easily do this without a problem. The GoPro has one plus in that it has a whole bevy of mounts to mount to just about anything. The only problem is that many of their plastic mounts are not suitable for motorcycle use (they vibrate too much causing the video to just be bouncing around if you use any of the mounts with more than one link). Either way - you can't really go wrong with either. I also used to use a VIO which takes excellent video but it isn't self contained so I would say to stay away from those that have the camera separate from the recording device unless you're prepared to mount two things every time (or permanently mount). |

When I was doing my research folks really liked the DRIFT. The DRIFT is the new kid on the block. I have found the picture quality to be outstanding. Microphone noise is dependent on the configuration. Battery life is within normal expectations. I really like the rugged, small compact size and the 360 adjustable lens is excellent. I really like it. I noted that the professional rider from VisorDown whom was in the video racing the 1199 Tricolore against the Porsche was using one. I would recommend that you do you research regarding DRIFT HD vs GoPro.

I have a Contour 1080 HD. I hate every bit of it. 2 years back I bought the Contour 720 HD. It failed to record on numerous occasions so I brought it back to the store. After a few weeks they told me they couldn't repair it and because they didn't make them anymore I should go with the 1080. I HAD to pay an extra €20 or they wouldn't give me a new one. ( not a real warranty imo ) Anyways... Bought the 1080 and used it only 5 times in the last year. I even bought a few mounts for it. 2 weeks ago it failed to record again. Brought it to the store and they told me the battery was broken. NO warranty on the battery so I needed to buy a new one for €30. I said I'd think about it... If I rode 6 sessions on the track per day, the contour would shut down about 1 to 2 minutes into recording. Meaning I would have only 1 or 2 succesfull recordings .I'm gonna buy a Gopro now |

Once you find a memory card that works, it works fine. Lost a couple days of track time figuring this out, but its basically the memory card you are using that is not working with the contour camera. Last edited by anthem; September 2nd, 2012 at 06:18 AM.

I'm close to pulling the trigger on a camera. How is th DRIFT in regards to wind noise filtering? I know I can park the camera behind the fairing, but once in awhile I want to hang it in the wind. Cheers Warp

It does look rather cool. The microphone picks up a lot of noise, however that is very much to be expected. The camera has mute options and there are numerous audio bits of kit from in helmet mics to just extended cable runs, etc.

I have both - along with a few others. I find I grab the contour every time I go to the track though. It's audio is quite good if you don't have direct wind blowing on it (mine is mounted behind the windshield) and its the easiest to use as you just flip the top switch and it starts recording. Shape wise its small and mount wise - once you get to a std tripod mount, you can use Ram balls to ram mounts or panavise mounts. GoPro's record decently well as well, and they have a plethora of mounts. I find their mounts don't work well for motorcycles because anything longer than one pivot on their mounts vibrates way too much. So you're stuck converting it to tripod mount and then going from there. It's a good camera - just not my first choice as its a bit more complex to get recording than sliding a switch with gloves.
