Don't Lose Your Rear Cowl - Remove Tape

I don't take it on and off much, but I noticed that my rear cowl was always a bit difficult to put on. I was looking at it today and realized that there was tape (with red paint from overspray) wrapped around the latch on the underside of the cowl. I removed the tape and now the cowl goes on easier and feels much more secure. I recommend everyone checking to see whether the tape was left on your bike.

I tried the key which turned ok but on my 1198sp this would make the cowl jump up as it was spring loaded. When I turned the key on the Pani cowl just didn't move. Tried to pull it up, didn't budge! Anyone else have the same thing?
Yeah i had the same problem, especially when i put the pillion seat on. But it seems to have corrected itself

Ya its happened to a few other people too, some causing them to lose their cowls on the freeway, so lucky you

If you need a picture or clarification on what he is referring to, I covered it here

Put your hand on the back point of the cowl and push forward. But I'm sure you've figured that out by now!

Most of the times the lid won't close properly because the leather strap lays between the compartment and the cowl.
Make sure the strap is in its secure-place and everything will be ok

If you're not planning on carrying a pillion and have already removed the rear pegs, remove the strap, too. Interference problem solved ... and you've gained a tiny bit more room!
