I dont know about other customs in other countries, but I would have to think we have the worst or most stupid. ![]() Scenerio 1....... I had some Carbon Fiber wheels arrive ffrom South Africa on the 15th. I rang the Australian Post and they told me yes they arrived on the 15th and were sent back next day to South Africa. So I ring customs and they say no they are here...lol, I know where this is heading......So he tells me ok you can fill out the form online, so I do that and send it email, bastards charge me $48 for sending a email...hahaha, you have to laugh. Ok I wait the mandatory 5 days for my return email to let me know whats going on and if I have to pay money, which I can be sure I will be. Guess what no email so I call them next day and ask them what the @##$ is going on.......oh sorry sir they will rush it through and ring you, I cant tell you anything else because they cant find certain documents.....more like cant find the Wheels ![]() Ok so I ring again today and the girl say's. not #$%^& much except they will ring you now and let you know what is happening........yep you guessed it ...no $%^& call.....Lol what will tomorow bring ![]() Scenerio 2.......oh this is a good one Carbonvani sent my 2 boxes full of Carbon parts for my bike, they got to Australia on Friday. Then I get a Email from Carbonvani, with Simona saying we are so sorry but one of the boxes has been sent back because she was kind enough to put some free carbon in the box as a gift and that is what she wrote next to the parts, while she put the prices next to the others......Well it appears that the Australian Customs doesnt like a gift being on the invoice so they sent it back......hahahaha......you have got to be #$%^ joking ![]() P.S.....Just got a email from Carbonvani saying they went to Milan and filled in another document before it cleared customs and it is on it's way back here....lol. I cant give these guys a big enough rap, they have been great to deal with the whole time and nothing is a problem for them. Last edited by Wallaroo; September 3rd, 2012 at 02:05 AM. |

I can imagine dealing with them can't be much fun, so kudos for keeping it together. It may feel like they are stupid, and I'm sure being bureaucrats they have their fair share ;-) However that said I've seen some people exporting equipment to Oz and let me tell you the rules are super strict!!!! Not allowed to have spec of dust, oil, grease, or plant matter on it. Which I imagine is easy enough with new carbon parts, but less so with a 1,000 Ton self elevating Jack up (think of an off shore oil rig but slightly smaller). Absolute nightmare and nigh on impossible. I don't know if any of you have ever caught a show called "Border Patrol" on Discovery (here atleast) about Aussie customs, my lord are they tough! Fining and sending little old ladies crying because they can't take the cake their kids baked for them into the country. Well that,......... and carting off drug dealing scum ![]() That said I'll be writing Aussie customs a letter, they need to let you have your carbon, it needs to get onto your bike ASAP so we can all sit here and drool over the pics! And they'd better be damn quick about it too |

On a good note the first package of Carbonvani is now sitting in my hot little hands and that arrived in Australia on Friday, so just got to wait for the second one to get here after its little trip around the world ![]() I understand where customs is coming from in reference to importing food and plant life that could cause so much damage to our eco system, because I have seen what has already happend because of mindless idiot's bringimg in Cane toads and other plants that just wrecked havoc here.......Drugs well it depends what it is | |

There is an art to getting parts into Oz and staying under the $1K GST limit. Marking as gift is no good as you've experienced. Supplier needs to label artfully... I just got a full Termi System in from US in 4 days using USPS. No clearance issues. No GST. Saved about 40% on buying locally. PM me if you want to know how parts should ideally be labelled - would rather not broadcast in case the f*#$&ers are reading! |

I thought the deal with Australia was that the ozzies were so cool ? Sounds like you run into the British "jobs worth" syndrome. Anyhow, good things take time. It will all be worth while, I think the Carbonvani with Turbani' levers and indicators will look very special. |
