Integrated Tail Light

I know it is probably premature, but I have successfully created a working prototype for an integrated tail light for the Panigale. It uses the running light strips in the tail for the indicators that blink when the turn signal is activated.

I've already torn apart one OEM tail light to figure out the inner workings and to find out what was involved in doing this, but I destroyed the housing in it and fried the LED's in my testing I'm ordering in another one now so I can actually put it on a bike. I want to road test this for a while to make sure there are NO issues at all what-so-ever.

Once I get the new light in I'll post videos to show that I'm not full of shit and it actually does work. In the end this will be plug and play, so just plug in your stock connectors and be good to go!!!

Update:

Now haz video!!

Thanks from Gunny Fitz and Abojan

Haven't done anything with the plate yet since Competition Werkes has theirs out.

Most likely going to take a light off a customers bike we have that won't take delivery until it has an integrated tail...so might as well see if this works on his!

Got the board soldered together last night...was stupid busy at work today and didn't have much of a chance at all to work any more on it today. Tomorrow hopefully I'll get the light off the bike and wired up and get pictures/video. Basically depends on how much time I can dedicate to it tomorrow. I'll keep everyone posted and updates when I can.

Hahaha, if I could thank your post I would.

Good news is the tail light and rear harness we ordered from Ducati on Wednesday showed up yesterday...nothing like 2 day shipping from Italy!!!

So just for clarification you're fabricating just the light / indicator unit? And not fender eliminator as well? If I'm getting this right we'd need to get Competion Werkes fender eliminator plus this ????
By the way this looks very nice - great job!!

Gulf, you're correct. With competition werkes having theirs out, I don't think its worth making the fender eliminator.

I'm working on pricing now. This uses the OEM tail light so there will be no issues with fitment and it will be plug and play, so no cutting or splicing on your guys part. Right now the only other guy I've seen doing this you have to send in your tail light to him and he adds LEDs to the light and rear hugger, which doesn't look all that great in my opinion, and charges $400 for it. I'd like to do it for around that price, but with my setup you will get another tail light, so you'll still have your original one!

Once I get numbers crunched I'll post it up.

Awesome, like someone said this is exactly how Ducati should have done it!

Sorry cant tell from video... Is it the red running light that's blinks like an indicator..? Or is it actually amber? If its the red, how's it work whilst the brake is applied..? Many thanks
