they should go with a monoposto for the SP, give a comfort seat, maybe a double bubble windscreen, exhaust that actually improves performance, maybe some more carbon bling. Not sure what else they could really do?

It was 2 years between the 916 and 916SPS, and 4 years between the 1098 and 1198SP, so it would be surprising an SP came out the very next year. And to follow patterns, it would have to have a performance incerease of some sort, at least suspension.

If ducati released a sp, which I highly doubt, it would prob have mono tail with no passenger pegs with a painted number board, slip on termi, more small carbon peices and the the nose cone wider with the aero wing intergraded. I dont think we will ever see an R, thought WSB rules stated no limited production bikes as of 2013, and we will see headlights painted on, like the kawa does. Think the future bikes are trying to be more like the street counterpart, atleast look.

@ Bluebear, Generally Ducati seems to release new models at the Milan Motorshow(EICMA) in November. Last few years there is always a new model, so new colours or minor things are sometimes just quietly placed on the website and a short press release issued. I suppose if there is an SP it would be November at EICMA.

For the SP they could do something in like Dynamic Damping Control like on the BMW HP4. That would seem like a smart marketing move to me, it's really the only thing the Pani doesn't have equipment wise over the S1KR.

They could also try to boost the HP a bit on an SP, Ti conrods? ECU?, Ti headers?, so it does better on the straight line speed tests/dynos, which is what the journo's liked to put the Beemer ahead for. From a marketing point of view.

Alternatively and more likely IMHO they could use it as a homologation vehicle, to combine the lessons learned in Superstock and BSB into a more race ready package to change the things they aren't allowed to from stock currently prior to it entering WSBK.

How about an engine that revs higher. Sure I've read somewhere that this is the only real way to increase power considerably.

Better traction control system.

More 'modes', ie maybe another few that the customer can name & set instead of just the basic 3.

I read that the R version will bring the Formula One KERS system as a first for a motorcycle. The energy stored from Braking at a smaller crank acts as a secondary "flywheel" that would add torque at the press of a button at the riders will. I read the Patent from Ducati and it's a great read.

I think an SP would have Skyhook suspension like the new 2013 Multistrada, new color schemes and updated wheels, added capabilities via the software for engine and suspension settings. The SP may have a revised camshaft profile and base map.
