Does Stompgrip work well?

Hey guys I've just ordered some stomp grip but it would be great to hear whether it really works...does it make riding easier?

I find hard under braking having to really grip the tank hard, so sounds like this would give me more grip so can grip less hard with legs? Even on the street this would be great, or on a set of twisties with some good straights.

Depends. I find under hard braking, it improves a little, but not all that much. It's not a large pad. And if installed correctly, while riding, it is just slightly above the knees when you are riding/braking. It is designed to give you traction when you lock your knee into the side of the tank - which means when you're shifted over and hanging a bit off you lock the opposite knee /into/ the tank. Locking the knee into the tank when done properly is usually raising your calf to wedge the knee into the side of the tank (which is why the stomp grip pad is just a bit higher than where your knee would be while normally riding). The stomp grip then gives you better traction right along the inner thigh above the knee and to the tank.

So yes, it helps when you're hanging off or shifted over. But for braking it may help a little but if properly applied - maybe not. As it should be applied probably right under the ridge of the tank and toward the middle. But that is not necessarily where you're applying pressure while under hard braking. It overlaps a bit but not entirely if that makes sense.

I found the Techspec set to work really well with this bike. They include pieces for the fairings where a lot of riders' knees make contact. Having those little fairing pieces made a huge difference for me, especially under hard braking. And of course, the larger tank pieces work well while leaned over.

I switched to these Tank Tredz Motorcycle Gas Tank Grip Skins Pads - Tank Tredz Motorcycle Grip Skins and like them much better than Stompgrip.

I installed the stompgrip from a generic sheet that I cut myself which pretty much stops at that horizontal line of the gas tank since my legs only contact that lower 2 - 3" part of the tank. I also cut out a piece like 11ninenine has on his photo that is attached to the front fairing. I'm going to go ahead and install those too.

Personally, I do all my riding on street and feel the stomp grips do help as I grip with legs on braking. I think you should try it yourself and you'll like them.

tech spec is better for me, the second piece as in the pic above, makes it easier for me to keep from sliding into the tank.

I did spend two track days riding a bmw with stomp grip and it's superb and very helpful on the track, it is ugly tho.

Doing a track day at Jennings on sunday, this'll be the first track day with the tech spec installed.

My thighs / legs don't touch the tank - unless I go on tippy toe - so do the little pieces on the fairing do enough to get enough grip?

I have clear stomp on my GSXR and you cant really see it and it works a treat. The black stomp / tank spec looks a little messy to me I have to be honest and I wouldn't put it on unless it became my track bike.

your legs will come in contact with the tank pads when you're getting off the bike in turns
