Having owned a few bike over the years, including 4 new Ducatis over 11 years, the reality is something that has become obvious.

Ducati Sportbike machines can easily stop you from enjoying riding more than any other bike from the inventory.

My current ride is a 2010 1198S, 2011 Diavel, 2010 Blade.
I have no intention of buying a 1199.
The 1199 is by all account a copy in terms of 'being able to live with' as all other Ducati sportsbike models gone before. Unbearable.

Recently checking the local listing and most For Sale Ducatis have on average 2k miles.

Not a good sign and I now accept and understand why.

My 1098S has 3k on the clock and it sits in the corner of the garage.
A friend referred to it as 'Garage Jewellery'.
It hurt; as I though only HDs were just that. But true.

Then I checked the Ferrari s For Sale, and the same shite.

I'm putting it in the corner of the living room: enjoying the view but not the memory of the ride.

Won't sell it but didn't enjoy riding it that much on the road.
Feel like I had being sucked in and used by its beauty.

Been there and done that, and over it.
Not to mention the cost of the interlude. Way overpriced.
Ducatis method of supply and demand is below me now.
While now mass production, the game is the same and I'm no longer willing to play.

I just want to love to ride.

Nothing is different, you don't need a Ducati, nor any other hypersports model. If you'll observe listings for GSXRs, ZX10s, and other hypersports models you'll notice the same phenomenon. Don't blame the bike for failing to compromise. Rather, blame the rider for chosing the wrong bike!

I know what you're talking about... But that may have more to do with a certain type of consumer that is allured to Ducati's, Ferraris and the like. Some are attracted to exotic things because of what they are. Garage jewelry. Nothing wrong with that I suppose...

Then there are those that absolutely appreciate everything that goes into these exotic machines. I've recently had an R1, GSXR1000, S1000RR and rode them all on the street and track. Then I purchased a 2012 Multistrada and absolutely fell in love with it. That led me to test ride a 1199 which of course led to an immediate purchase. I ride the heck out of it every chance I get. I don't however ride it to the grocery store!

You have to ask yourself why your 1098 is sitting in the garage. If it were something else would it be ridden perhaps? Why don't you ride it? Maybe your interests have evolved and you want something else or maybe you've lost interest in bikes for the time being.

I'd disagree, maybe not with previous Ducati's but it doesn't apply to the Panigale. I've clocked up just under 5,000 miles this summer, toured Europe, been to the TT, bit of commuting. Apart from a dodgy alarm the bike hasn't missed a beat, the seating position is excellent - it's been far more comfortable than my previous R1.

+1 to that,the more miles that go under the Pani"s wheels the more I like it. Took delivery end of July and have done 1400miles. Last year only did 500miles on my 1098s and that was no fault of the bike. Simply that life happens and last year I hardly got any time to ride. Apart from the shitty weather even in summer here in the UK,work and other responsibilities ate into my riding time. I do know guys who are scared to put too much mileage on a bike cos it hits resale value,they are just playing and anal. It dont matter if you"ve got the latest and greatest bike or an old nail,if you ride,you ride. Thats my 50pence worth

I would disagree, I have put close to 5,500 miles on my panigale this year and have enjoyed every mile done. I think it more of a picked the wrong bike, it happens, a good friend of mine wanted a bike but wanted something exotic so he bought a RC8R. He put less than 1,000 miles on it and never seemed to enjoy himself. After a year he sold it and figured riding wasn't for him. Then on a day when I was goin to the Ducati shop he tagged along for fun and test ride a multistrada, he bought it and has logged more than 10,000 miles in a little over a year. Don't be upset if they sit there and people say garage jewelry if you can afford it then good for you, but lose the joy of riding, just find the bike that meets your wants and needs.

Lets face it the average age of a ducati rider is probably 40+, they probably have more than one bike or car or other toys/hobbies.

I've done 6,000km in last four months on my 1199. I also have a Harley fatboy that's done 60,000km over 5 years. Have done a lot less Km on the Harley since buying the 1199. I can't envisage a long ride on the Harley now, just use it for urban riding. So if I had many toys then I'm guessing I would struggle to run up a lot of kms.

Was commuting 50 miles round trip to work and I take the backroads...some nice twisters and hills (gotten air underneath both tires ONCE). Anyway, perfect breakin road. I had to move so now I'm .5 miles away from work so I walk. I really miss my morning ride. That's why I will not have many miles on mine for now

I bought an RC8, did roughly 4500kms in 4 years. Bought the Pani and have done 1500kms in 3 months with a lot more riding planned for the very near future!

I think a lot o people who buy bikes do so to have the toy in the garage. They don't really use it and think they are preserving the resale value by keeping the mileage low. Eventually the realize the bike is loosing value anyway through age and that's when you see them for sale. Says more about the owners than the bikes IMO.

1700 miles in 8 weeks, and it would be more if the weather was better up here. My usual ride - FJR, which I loved - has been out twice since the 1199 appeared on the scene!

It's also to do with age, and convenience. I bought a Smart car last October to use as a winter hack. Unfortunately because of it, I've become lazy. "It's raining, I'll just take the car to work."

Shame on me.

Mine's a daily rider, and my other duc a streetfighter I bought new has 19k miles on it.

Antihero on here has logged thousands of miles traveling cross country. Low miles is the fault of the rider, not the bike, too many people with lots of miles on their ducs for that excuse to fly.

What's your point? Some people ride them some don't. Some get sucked in thinking they are buying an investment and then don't use them to keep the k's down, witness the special R models.

I don't commute but I ride when I can which is most weekends and I creep way midweek when I can, and do a number of " pilgrimages" a year.

My "old R" now has about 60,000ks on it and my mates SPS has 120,000ks, another mates R has 45,000ks. My new Panigale now has about 5,000 k's.

Nothing to do with the bike, Ducati's or anything, if you ride, and you want a 1199 it has nothing to do with it sitting in the garage.

Another low mileage theory? The high mileage ones aren't for sale. Loving your Ducati equates to putting lots of miles on it. And loving a bike (and not needing to sell it to buy a second or third) would explain why there are so few in the classifieds.

But for the sake of playing devils advocate, you currently own two Ducs and have owned four over the years. Strange that your first, second or third didn't prevent you from getting the last one? Do us all a favor and sell both of your Ducs to someone who will enjoy them then head on over to the CBR forum.

So exactly which bike to you actually ride? Of course every F#CKING newer Ducati has low miles; the owner bought it and found out they didn't really like to ride... This isn't just for Ducati's or Harleys, of which I've owned both. Every single bike brand has this. It goes like this. Some guy finally makes enough money to buy his "dream bike" and finds out it's way different than he expected. So instead of holding onto it and having his friends call him out for his "garage jewelry" he does the logical thing: sell it.

It's people like you that buy them because you have a ton of money yet didn't do your research and then b!tch because it's not a gixxer. What do you think compares to your (supposed) Diavel? A Vmax? If you don't like the 1198 you own with under 2000 miles, then sell it like the other posers, obviously it's not the bike for you.

Go buy a ZX10 or CBR1000 or whatever you feel is the bike for you and spend time enjoying your bike instead of b!tching about your "garage jewelry".

These bikes just have to many issues and to hell with all you guys saying he can't afford one. Ducati's have more excuses for being broke down or hot or just for track riding. I am tired of you guys bashing people just for telling you how they feel. O that's right it's the first year so it's gonna have some bugs lol.
