Anyone with a 1199 also own a S1000RR? - Page 2

Hi mate,
I did my first track day the other day and the bike was chalk and cheese compared to the rough roads i ride on. Pleasure on the track and felt pretty planted to me. I still get bounced around like a moto cross bike on the rough roads though. Would the beemer be any different ? Don,t know.

Amen to that. I had a SP1,then a1098s before my Tric. Bags of character in both the old bikes but nothing on a par with the Pani. Its like liquid,it surrounds you,it bombards the senses. In plain english, its ADDICTIVE,no other way to describe it and I love it.

I was at my ducati stealership this weekend. they are also a bmw dealer. I have to say i was borderline about to pull the trigger on the s1000rr. I still haven't road it but you cant miss with that bike. For 16500 msrp (im sure you can get it cheaper) you get everything and its the easiest bike to go fast on. you get traction anti lock breaks and all the other safety aids plus heated hand grips. (i want that so bad). I dont think you can even consider any other bike but the bmw. (i mean Japanese bikes by the way.) For the same price your choice are yamaha honda or kawi and the bmw is far and away better then those.
The 1199 is comparing apples to oranges with the inlines. if i didnt get the duc i would have gotten the beemer. hey i may still get the beemer.
i would have to get one with red in it so i wouldnt have to get new leathers lol.

I own a full option s1000rr with full Akra, Powercomander and autotune and a Panigale R.

When we say that the sound of the s1000rr is droney, it is true but wait till you replace it with a shorty Akrapovic. It sounds like an f1 machine.

Now the two machines took two different approaches in achieving speed and handling. One went with the Inline4 + twin spar frame approach while the other took the Vtwin + engine stressed member approach. and the result is very different.

What I can say is that BMW feels more planted and secure. It is a bit heavy to maneuver around corner compared to the Pani, but once you commit to the turn, it inspires confidence and you know what is going on. With the Pani, the experience is raw and every thing seems ok until you will feel a shudder, I do not know if that is the traction control. In my Local track I lap at 2"12 seconds on the bmw and I lap around 2"12.4 seconds in the Panigale. I also do not know if that is my ridding limit or if the machine has to do with it but after a lap, I feel that I have to work harder on the Panigale to achieve such lap times where as with the BMW, I do not feel as tired.

Let us not forget that the Panigale Generates heat, and lots of it, I do not say that the bmw does not generate heat too, but it is far more manageable than the Pani.

But if I were to keep one bike, it will be the Panigale. THe vtwin sound is intoxicating, it looks sexy that you will forgive its short comings the way a sick puppy loved boy would forgive his beautiful but cheating girlfriend. I do not get the "Soul"thing, as far as I can tell , the designers and engineers from both companies did their best in releasing what they believe as a great bike.

Hey Desmo...regarding the local track you mentioned? Is that CIS - Clark Int'l Speedway?

Hmmmmm I switched from an all option Autohaus acquired 2011 White Blue S1000RR to a "Panigale "S". Yes...I agree with you that the BMW S1000RR feels more stable and secure, as the Panigale seems to be more "flighty" and less stable while aggressively accelerating from the tight stuff...but the Panigale is definitely more flickable than the S1000RR. Honestly, if I had the approval of my wife to keep both bikes...I would have kept my BMW SThou!

Yup migs that is the Local track at CIS, I know my laptimes are still bad but I feel happy that I dropped it to that time compared to the 2"45seconds when I first tried it out there=)

with the two bikes, although I achieve almost the same lap times, when I ride the S1000rr, in the track, I feel like "that was great" with the Panigale I would tell myself "That was great, do I revv up to hear the engine? but that was a lot of work though"

I can't speak to the S1000 guys, but my experience on many Japanese literbikes which I liken to what many say the S1000 feels like (but with way more power) is a "characterless" experience. Please realize I'm not saying they aren't fun! My seat time on the Panigale (along with owning other Ducati's) is about the experience and communication. It is still a Ducati, but has a rawness like no other Ducati i've had or ridden.

So to the original question, S1000 and Pani in the same garage? Hell ya......because they both take very different routes, with very different experiences, to the same goal. IMHO.

I own both, the S1000r is a great bike but it is no Ducati. I have always preferred v-twin sport bikes back to my TRL1000 days. The S1000r is on consignment at Mancuso Southwest here in Houston if anyone thinks they need one.

I own both, S1000 RR 2012 and Panigale S 2013. The S1000 is smother and pulls so hard in any RPM, Panigale is very sluggish unless you're over 7K RPM, the S1000 is very comfortable and it pulls like a freight train, though is not as flickable as the Panigale, however The Pani is just sosososososo SEXY and feel very special when you ride it.
On Sunday rides I usually ride the S1000 RR because is just a BEAST! even thought the Pani can also get there once you put the power to the ground, and I love leaning the Pani on tight turns and long sweeps much more fun than the S1000.
I just bought the DID 520 ERV3 conversion with AFAM 41 Tooth in the rear and a Ducati Corse a much lighter version than the AFAM with titanium hardware. it will get installed by Saturday and I can't wait to try it!!!!
I will def get faster to the curve of the torque of the Pani this way.
