Had the surprise of my life at 80+mph when out of nowhere this huge white swan or egret decided to commit suicide and cause nice bruises on my collarbone, arm and shoulder Sunday morning. Missed the Pani completely but the impact on my body was significant. What felt like a padded bowling ball hitting me probably weighed a few pounds but holy shit. I had to ride 40 miles with blood and crap on gas tank and all over my leathers. I could only imagine if it hit my brake lever ![]() just added photo of my collar bone Last edited by 1stduc1199; October 16th, 2012 at 10:46 AM. |

Damn, same thing almost happened to me last weekend with same type of bird, but he was coming in at an angle from the right so I could see him. But all I could do was brace for impact & say to myself "stay the fuq away motherscratcher!!". Luckily he veered back off to the right. :-) Glad u are OK. |

Birds are no joke! You got lucky it didn't knock you off or break your neck. I hit one around the same speed a couple months back. It ran across the road in front of me and slammed into my foot (crushing it against the left footpeg). Hurt like hell.

I've hit a couple at speed; one in the arm and one nearly in the faceshield. Ducked just in time for that one and felt it go splat on my helmet. Alarming enough as it was; OP's lucky to have hit one a lot bigger and come away without worse! However, you guys are giving Ducenzo some ideas for his next track mishap... |

Glad you're okay. Sometimes it is just pure luck that nothing worse could have happening. A guy I used to race at legal drags, had just finished a run on the quarter (140+mph) when a bird about the size of a grown chicken hit him right in the middle of the chest. The end result was that it nearly tore him off of his racebike. Fortunately he weathered rge impact and got it stopped. Bruised chest & rib cage. Very dead bird, which turned out to be an Ibis and blood, guts, feathers & bird ka-ka everywhere. Lucky guy.

Glad you're ok and maybe bruised collar bone more acceptable than smashed windscreen, fairings, etc??? ![]() Funny enough I got hit by bird on my work today. Only difference was I got a direct hit with bird crap. Took it on the chest, pants and backpack plus a little bit of splatter on bike. Didn't actually realize until I was changing in the office!!! Jacket and pants in washing machine as we write!!!! |

Ouch. I know how it feels! I had a huge owl fly straight into me but I was probably doing 55mph or so. I did not get bruised up but my should er was sore for a few days.
