I Ride: 2012 Ducati 1199 S
Question Will the development of the 1199 benefit under Audi ownership?

Now that Audi and Ducati are two peas in a pod, what are your predictions for the future development of the Ducati brand? Will the 1199 benefit from this?

Hopefully the Pani will be a collectors item since it was the last Design by Ducati and not under the Audi ownership.

I think their QC will improve. But hopefully, and I think they will, largely keep them untouched.

I read awhile back that Ducati was going to fall under the Lambo umbrella to help increase their business unit meet the minimum avg. mpg mandates coming. Lambo edition Ducati anyone? (I wouldn't mind scissor fairings to make oil changes easier.)

I read that Ducati's ligthweight engine technology will do more to help Audi then the other way around. But it was mainly a trophy purchase because he likes motorcycles and missed a chance to buy it last time.

I was thinking this too. Could be the last true Ducati. On the other hand it may be the last of the "unreliable" Ducs as I feel that they will improve in that regard, but risk losing the "soul" of these bikes.

Sport Rider Aug 2012 issue, I bought off ebay. It also has a test of the Panigale and the K1300S HP - both my bikes in it.

The Volkswagen Group as a whole owns Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini, Bugatti, BMW, Ducati, in addition to a few more other auto manufacturers and divisions.

They each own a percentage of The Volkswagen Group. No one division owns this group...

i'm not really into those type of cars. i like the mid-size 4-dr sedans. maybe the S6. audi is new to me so i still have a few years left on my is350 to figure it out. i would never buy a porsche, bugatti, or lambo; not my style. the s/o had an vw eos, it was ok.

Audi makes some pretty solid cars. Their haldex awd system is actually pretty impressive, plus some of their motors are absolutely bullet proof (B5 S4 for instance). Granted, on the older cars they had electrical issues (VW as well) but I'm pretty sure most of that has been resolved.

Either an S4 or a BWM 335i (even a 135i) would be solid cars. The N54 motor that's in the BMW is solid as well, underrated and just as strong as the B5 S4.

Granted, at the same time, the new Mustang 5.0 is putting down the same or better numbers than the M3, so that's another solid performance car to look at as well...but not in the same family haha...

One correction, BMW is not part of this group.

I don't see a downside to this, Lambo has come along way since Audi picked them up. There cars are now the best of both worlds (Italian design with Germany mechanicals) and Lambo has still kept it's identity. Lambo's reliability and numbers are up. I think it's cool cuz now everything in my garage comes from a single source:

Ducati 1199 Tri
Ducati 1098
Porsche 911 Turbo
Audi S5
Audi Q7

Ducati already hired (or consulted with) a few Toyota engineers back in 08 (I think it was 08) to work on their reliability and initial quality issues.
