I Ride: Ducati Streetfighter
December delivery or wait for a '13 in February?

Just wondering what anyone's opinion is on this...

I have a Streetfighter to ride at the moment and have a base 1199 on order, next available is around mid-December, or if I wait for a 2013-plated bike, early February delivery.

My understanding is that both bikes will be the same (i.e. oil sight glass hole) but should I wait just in case there are some changes?

Would probably trade or privately sell the bike in 3 years, is it worth waiting for the better resale value of a 2013 plated bike?

Wait. For sure if it were winter. But if you have long summers down under and can enjoy a full riding season....I just wouldn't get a 2012 so late in the year plus you already have a nice bike to ride for those 90 days. IMHO

I would wait.

Unless the dealership is giving you a considerable discount on the outgoing 2012 year bike, then I would most definitely wait for your 2013 1199.

Please post pics!

I'm with duc, unless the dealership is giving a discount on a 12 vs. a 13, I'd wait.

i am kind of in the same boat. What would you guys consider a huge discount? Plus if I do get a 2012 vs 2013, i don't think i should have to pay that freight and assembly charge.

maybe a grand. Not all dealers charge an assembly fee. FYI, the factories (at least they used to) pay the dealers to assemble the bikes.

Thanks for the replies gents, there is no discount on 2012s yet so locked in a 2013 plated Base (ABS standard here) for start of February 2013.

I believe so, 2013-spec fairings are on the bikes coming to Australia now.

The only advantage in waiting two months is having an improved resale value on a 2013 vs 2012.

There doesn't seem to be any excess supply of 1199's in Australia at the moment and no willingness to shift 2012s just yet so prices seem to be identical.

Your bike is still going to be worth the same wether it's badges 2012 or 2013 .
Get a couple of extra months in riding . I don't understand the logic .

I dont agree. When looking at the market for 2nd car or bike. Buyers will make it as tho i year as big difference even if both are same.

I say wait.

Really . That's sad if you buy a bike because it's compliance has a later date on it even though it's the same bike.
I would say a 2010 1198s is worth the same money as a 2011 1198s if the bikes are just the same .
Go on waste two months of summer get the 13

I must admit when I was looking at 1098s I wanted a 2008 or later. Thought the 2007 would be the one with problems. Now I'm faced with getting my pani in the next 2 weeks or going for a 2013 plate in feb. what you guys think?

I Ride: Ducati Streetfighter
I just try to minimise depreciation on my car and bike purchases where possible, as I tend to only keep the toys for a year or two.

For this reason I purchased a 2nd hand GT3 a couple of months ago (which has already taken a massive hit) and why I am going for the base Panigale over the S and a 13 over a 12.

The difference isn't huge of course and would probably depend on the buyer but given the small market here in Perth, a trade-in is the most likely end to my Panigale's life with me and the 13 plate will definitely make a not-insignificant difference to the trade-in price which would be based on year, kms and condition.

I have the Streetfighter which I love to ride anyway, and we can ride all year so it isn't like I am missing two months of a four month riding season!

As it's your spring/summer just now, I'd say buy one at the moment and enjoy it.

Life's too short.

+1

You buy the bike to enjoy ridding it and not to think about selling it in the near future. In time, selling the bike will come but I do not think it should be at the expense of not enjoying the awesome Panigale

yep, exc. points since it's summer for you, hell if I'd wait a couple months when I could be riding, with no real diff in the bikes.

Every bike I buy, I visualize as being worth $0 dollars after I put it on the road, that way, if when I sell it, it'll be more than I originally hoped for. Bike is a pit to throw money in, so just enjoy the ride.
