I just called my State Farm agent this morning and the 1199 still isn't in their system. Generic quote based upon $19K price and 1199cc was $30/month for me (40yo, 1 ticket, no claims, etc).
That is with $500 deductible and higher liability limits of 100k/300k).

Getting older is good for insurance.

As a comparison, I just added a 2010 Ninja 250 and for full coverage for my 18 year old with one car claim, adding him to my policy would be $50/month. I went with $20/month by removing Collision coverage, keeping liability (required) and comprehensive.

They advertise how great they are on all the bike shows. In reality they are expensive.

State Farm is always great on rates, especially if you have car, home and bikes all together.

Plus they are easy to deal with and fast to pay on claims. Highly recommended and I won't change easily. Rates would have to be a A LOT less to convince me.

Makes 0 sense...USAA does not insure bikes. I'm a long time USAA member and this makes 0.0 sense...

Please explain

I used to pay $7/month for liability only with Progressive back in the 90's. I haven't gotten a quote yet for the new bike. I did get a quote for auto with USAA, and it was $70/month more than what I'm paying with GEICO. I was planning on moving everything to USAA for their legendary claims processing but nixed that idea after the auto quote. Planning to look at State Farm based on what I'm reading here to compare against my current GEICO policy.

Usually when you ask for motorcycle insurance through USAA they refer you to Progressive, transfer your call to them, then you get done up the butt by them. However, USAA does offer motorcycle insurance by themselves. I'm not sure how I got it but I did. I may have been grandfathered in. They even asked me on the phone when I was getting my 1199 quote "Do you have motorcycle insurance through us or progressive?". You may just have to ask USAA. I know when I first started riding they wouldnt insure me and referred me to Progressive. After riding a few years they allowed me to be insured by them and not referred to Progressive.

I just got the quote yesterday after giving them the VIN my dealer gave me. Insurance was only $3 or $4 dollars more a month than my '07 R1.

Yeah, on the USAA website, motorcycle insurance is an option for sure, they partner with Progressive on it like Theefiveoh pointed out.

I had all my cars with Progressive and they wanted over $3000 to insure BMW K1300S two years ago. Switched the lot to State Farm and down to $550!! Just phoned them up today to get an idea and they said an 1199 would add an extra $60 per year to the BMW quote.

you were grandfathered in, unfortunately back when they phased out mc insurance was the only period I didn't have a bike on the policy. They referred me to the "special" arrangement with progressive, no real savings over going to progressive regular site, which is way overpriced went to geico, much cheaper, couple years ago changed to foremost, cheaper still, I've got full coverage 100/300/100 with 1k deductible on 05 goldwing, 10 streetfighter, 11 aprilia rsv4 for around $1k a year. I'm guessing the pani will be around $500 year, rider 52 yo, no wrecks no tickets in ages.

Odd, I was just reviewing my new policy for the Tri Color I am picking up tomorrow! 45 year old, no tickets, $529 a year, 100/300, $500 deductible across the board (which I should raise to 1k for cheaper rate) and the most customer service insurance dude I have EVER met in my life!
If anyone in Virginia needs a reference for this PM me for details!

I must add, I am a bit anxious and skeptical for tomorrow's "date" as well. Big purchase but a big bike!
