I'll be attending the track in late July 29 and August 11. If anyone else in the area is either interested or are already going let me know. Would like to see other 1199 forum members there. I've been there once already on a 1098. It's a pretty new track and has pretty awesome instructors that host the event.

Great initiative and effort putting it together. I'm in process of doing same for end of Sept too and will gladly post and inform you bro! This is not VIR though correct? Never heardof this track down there and will check it out.
Gotta get the race SV out and dust it off. No way the Tri is going on track without race bodywork!

Would love to see that SV out there. Best track bike in history IMO.

I get the waiting on the track plastics. I'm just too itchy and need to see how this beast handles on the track. However, you gotta get those CF wheels out on the track to get the performance out of 'em!

For any military members on the fence if you want to try a track day, ponder this: You get free use of leathers, boots, gloves, back protectors etc. All for the cost of $150. Not a bad deal for a day on the track. The instructors hang with you all day, give you personal attention to fine tune your abilities.
I have no affiliations with them, I'm just impressed in how well they treat new riders. And this is only one of several tracks along the east coast they do this program with. Check it out!

Just realized something. July 29th is the day I enlisted in Marine Corps . What a way to commemorate that date at the track! Will try my best but know bike needs a bit of refresh first. Great deal though!!!

I'll be there with the 1199 for both days. Just look for bike in unpainted Sharkskinz bodies! I'll be riding with two friends on 1098rs. See you there. And yes we are driving down from NY so I might be a bit sore before we actually hit the track

I would say VIR is a better track than both NCBike and Thunderbolt. NCBike is a private track that usually hosts car testing. It has a ton of long sweeping curves, but no real "identity" or outstanding feature about it. (Sweeping curves is probably good for car/tire testing). Worth to ride once, but you might get bored real quick with the track. . . I think its a good change of pace for people who have always ridden VIR. TPM has an exclusive on the track for motorcycle events I believe.

and yeah, you guys definitely need to take the 1199(also goes for the 98 as well) out onto the track. Whats the point of that bike if you don't ride it on the track ? If you don't your using like 5% of its capability. At least if you bring it onto the track, you'll let it stretch its legs and show you what its capable of. Why buy it if you aren't going to use it ? Not taking it out because its a tri or because it's pretty is a travesty

Although the carbon fiber wheels will probably contribute minimal performance improvement - at least to most mere mortals. It's mass savings is minimal over the stock wheels. Replacing the rotors is actually much more significant, but even then I doubt most mere mortals can detect or utilize the gain in performance.

Track plastics are nice but a bit overrated. For the amount of track days most people do - its debatable whether its worth it. If you go down, chances are there is more damage than just the plastics. the plastics are about 1/2 the price of new fairings (some a bit more some a bit less). The bigger question is whether one will ride it hard enough and often enough to justify the additional cost of track plastics ?

They are coming predrilled so hopefully I won't have to play dentist

I sourced them directly from Sharkskinz, speak to Jason or Mary, very nice to deal with and they had everything in stock.

Thx. Obviously pre drilled helps alot, but that is a steep price to pay for plain bodywork. Hey listen, if you need a serious bike painter who specializes in Ducati work, send me a PM and I will get you hooked up with him! Not sure if you have seen my previous threads about him (Connecticut Cycle Refinishing)

I think Motowheels had some stuff on there for only $900 or so. In that PM please shoot me your email so you can send pics of the stuff once it arrives. I dont care what anyone else says, stock bodywork is NOT meant for the track or anywhere which puts it in a higher potential for damage. That set of sharkskins cost about as much as one side of stock. NOTHING is worth trying to replace this and nor would I put myself in that position. If a little money, and the time to swap it out, is not an issue than buying an extra set for track days (or having it painted up sweet and just leaving it on!) is a great idea!

Really ? $1350 for a set of race skins for how many track days ? Counter that with your possibility of actually laying it down. Counter that with whether your insurance covers damage on a dropped bike(some do). Counter that with what percentage of whether you actually drop the bike and do damage the skin (how many times have you dropped a bike and how many times have you bought race skins) ? Did it work out in your favor or against you over time ? Now if you high sided and it goes flipping - you have a lot more than what race skins will protect you from and in those cases, the race skins number works against you once more (bike is totaled).

Work the numbers - especially if you aren't a racer. Let's say you have bought 3 sets of race skins for your 3 bikes over time and spent 5K on them (sans paint). Let's say you have never dropped the bike - well, thats 5K down. If they dropped the bike once, that might be like $1000-$2000 for replacement skins. Twice - probably break even. Those numbers are sans insurance. And if you seriously damage the bike and total it, you've spent money on race skins for a bike you don't have or aren't going to repair, again more money down the drain. Once again - its a numbers game - sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Depends on how you ride, how lucky you are, and how many times you roll the dice. My guess for most - a) you aren't going to track it often and b) when you do, you're going to baby it. Not to bust your balls - but this is one of those where frequently it sounds better than it frequently is - not a "great idea" in the majority of cases.

Now, if you just want to be "cool" and have a race skin with all the stickers - hey that's as good as reason as any because most of my performance mods fall in that category as well. Especially since I have no real chance of realizing the difference in said performance. But lets call it for what it is. Just not the primary reason that we're discussing here.

You sound like your bike is a limited edition or something. It isn't. I understand if its a D16 but this isn't. It might be a color for this year (and they'll have new ones next year). This bike isn't going to go up in value no matter what you believe. . . . So you paid for the bike - now ride it like its supposed to be ridden .

You should see if you can get Dzus connectors on them if you are planning on running street/track. Hell of a lot easier to put on/remove if they'll work.

Hmm, at first I was wondering where the east coast was coming from, but then I see it was something from the profile. Painting large swaths with that kind of comment eh ?? That would be like me seeing your profile and handle and saying something about not living up to your "Gunny" bravado. . .. (BTW, not what I'm doing - just saying be careful where you stereotype).

I'm just pushing for you to take your bike out there and use it. I think you track every once in awhile, right ? Now you've got perhaps one of the top 3 or 5 bikes to track that others would /kill/ to have an /opportunity/ to track - and you CAN. So do it. . . You got carbons on there, right ? take it out there and enjoy it. Be safe and ride safe.

And like I said - unless you're planning on selling it real soon and want to keep it in pristine condition. Otherwise, whats the point. I see tons of people buy a bike but won't track it when its "new" but its fine 12 months from now. . where is the logic in that ?
