AlpineStars Boots?

I've been looking at the SMX Plus and Supertech R boots but having trouble deciding which ones.

These boots will be mainly for the street and a few track days a year and I will probably walk around in them a fair amount on the weekends at events.

Anyone have experience with either boot?

Supertech R's are a big improvement over the SMX+ boots. If you are using for the street as well, you may also want to consider the Dainese Axial Pro's. A little less "in your face" and one of the more comfortable race boots that I have worn. I can wear the Axial Pro's in to work and not change the boot as it doesn't stand out as much as say a SupertechR will.

I have both and the R's are awesome. But if you're not wearing them at the track exclusively, get the SMX+. I've crashed twice in my SMX boots and they're still serviceable.

Anthem: Thanks for the input, I had also considered the Axial Pro. Between the Supertech and Axial Pro, which do you think is less bulky?

TransNone13: I figured the SMX+ would be better suited for the aggressive street riding which I will do more than track days and still seem to offer great protection from what I've read. I wish there was a store around me where I could try these boots on and get a feel for them.

Got SMX myself. Great boots with great protection, the only annoying thing is the squeaking when walking, when at events or a Pub you'll sound like Robocop.

^ I can't stand the squeaking! For this reason, I only use the SMX+ on track, and my Axial Pros for the street. Even though the Axials are supposed to be higher spec, I have complete faith in the SMX+. I have crashed a couple of times in them (fairly visciously one time, I might add) and they've performed wonderfully.

I have the A-Star SMX-1's (low cut) and SMX-5's and like both. The SMX-1's, I can ride in and work in them all day and they are very comfortable. The SMX-5's are very similar. I can't say whether they are better than the others, but I think they are comfortable and provide ample protection. I ride every chance I can and try to commute in whenever I can.

I've got the supertech R and I've also got 3 pairs of Sidi boots. If you are using them as track only the supertec R boots are some of the most comfortable ones I've used so far.

In general I prefer the Sidi boots as they are less bulky.

Thanks for all the replies. I found a fairly new place in MD called CycleGear that has the SMX + and Dainese Axial Pro boots so gonna try and swing over there today.

Between the two I think the Axial Pro's are less bulky. They are also more comfortable (for me) than most boots I've tried on. I'm totally impressed by them by what they've done (considered the previous ones stunk in my opinion). Having a carbon fiber ankle support that is that comfortable is a big win in my book. I would choose them over the SupertechR almost every single time for daily riding. . . My track boots are Daytona Security Evo's - but they aren't good to walk more than 25ft in. . .. so kill that for anything other than track riding.

Anthem - sorry to bring up an old thread, but I am really close to ordering these. My only issue is they are specifically made to go inside the Dainese pants and attach by velcro. Do use them with other pants, and as long as the pants are loose enough to fit over them would they work do you think?

The new (2011) SMX+ have S**T lace eyelets, they rip off the boot when you pull them up. Mine are just over a year old and have lost three eyelets on one boot.
The old SMX+ with the metal eyes rather than those plastic tubes was much better. You have been warned !!

Bringing this thread back from the dead for a moment.... I received the Supertech R's and they looked awesome and well made but after wearing them around the house they were just too bulky for me personally and with my narrow foot it wasnt the boot that I was hoping for.

On that note, does anybody have experience with the Sidi Vortice? I tried on a pair of Sidi Vertigo and the fit was much more narrow and the boot felt amazing, but I wanted one with more ankle protection and adjustments and the Vortice seemed to fit that bill.
