Please I need you technical assistance on an issue that I am facing on a Ducati 1199S, hope you guys can help! Got it brand new, after about riding it for about 200km, the gear sensor light on the Dash started showing...... Once that is showing, the gear indicator does not show, shows only a dash- Also even though its on neutral and on the side stand, the bike would not start..... Have to hold the clutch and remove the stand to start the engine and then release the clutch. When the engine is running and is in neutral, the moment i put the side stand, the engine shuts down as if it were in gear though it is in neutral.............. The bike has done over 1850km now , have been riding with this issue, thought was a minor one but the problem is still on! While the sensor light is on, the engine check light is also on! While riding, all of a sudden, the gear indicator starts working normal and the engine check light also disappears and also suddenly, the dash on the gear indicator reappears as well as the engine check light too! I believe it's a loose connection somewhere- but don't know where and what to do!!!! Can anyone kindly assist me on this ASAP!!!! I am residing in Nigeria and we don't have any Ducati Service Centre in this country..... Have to do all on my own!!!! Please HELP!!!!!!!!! |

Sorry to say this sounds like more than just a loose connection. This sounds like either the kickstand switch has gone bad or a bigger issue with the electronics. Try jumping the kickstand switch and see if that does anything positive.

Base on your No dealer situation, i think you need to invest on a DDS to diagnose the problem.Since it happen at least once, fault code will be recorded for future read-out. Or maybe a 1199 workshop manual (if cheaper than above),that could allow you to measure resistance of the sensors to check if within specification(s) This bike's electronics is a bit complex to make sense out of it. you can guess all you want, if lucky, get to the root of the problem.. There is a reason why DDS and workshop manual are also heavily developed by Ducati and invested by dealer(s)... For starters,Could check on if the metal clip-pins of connectors to gear sensor/side stand are corroded. They seem closer to ground, you ride in wet often? |
