I bought a set of 35 watt/ 4300k H11 kit with slim line ballasts. There is some buzzing that occurs on start up from the system but that is just the circuit doing its thing, nothing to be alarmed at. It stops after about 20 seconds.
I only removed the side fairings, the air duct covers and the round rubber head light bulb covers. I attached the balast to the ECU wth dual sided sticky tape on the right side. The wires went inside the air duct covers and on the left side the ballast and most of the wiring went where the coolant tank would be if it had them on both sides.
I will get pictures posted when I am back at home(traveling for a few days)

Don't let the install stop you guys, these lights look freaking awesome and they are easy to put in. I did think about heat but this bike is so hot anyway there really isn't much you can do about it.

I paid 90 bucks for them and got them at a local bike shop. Others may be more or less expensive but I didn't have to wait to get them and my A.D.D. likes not having to wait!!!
Great selling job, I'm in! I found them quickly on Amazon, but a bit pricier. Are these them? Kensun HID Xenon Conversion KIT Digital Slim Ballast H11 4300k (Ultra White) : Amazon.com : Automotive

Trauma,
I don't know the name because they came in plain white boxes. I'll look when I get home (Friday) and post it if I can find it.

I ended up buying a duel slim ballast 70W/6000K system in H11 for a 12V system. The same one as another member on here installed. I'll be installing them this weekend. He says there's no error code so after install I'll confirm for everyone as well! 70W omg it's gonna rock!

Glad your install went well, I have not yet intsalled the HiD's on my 1199 yet, for 2 reasons: 1. the dealer told me to hold off because there is no proof that the signal from the lights will or will not cause interference with the 1199 Computer. and 2nd: i don't have the time, but lately i have been riding on weedays after work and now its getting darker earlier so maybe first thing next year.

I would only install the low beam hids for the reason that they are on all the time and change the high beams with a silverstar or PIAA bulb

if i was you i, wouldn't buy amazon HiD lights for "Best superbike of 2012" what do you do if there is a problem with the lights? i spent 6 months looking and found the DDM tuning had the best all around, they were inexpensive, easily shipped within a week and had exactly what i needed. AND i have not had a problem with ANY HiD kits i've installed, (I've done about 10 so far)

Question? knowing the bike gets hot would a long ziptie work better, that glue may wear out due to heat. If possible i would like to see where you did mount your ballasts, knowing that night driving sucks because the stock lights suck!!

Nice job!

Can you say where you purchased it? There was a strong recommendation for DDM, but they just go to 35/55, which may be plenty bright.

That was just the first one I found, and I trust Amazon, at least for 30 days! The DDM looks great, which config did you use, and color?

Have you seen what a 55W kit looks like? No need for one especially on a bike the 35W, in my opinion, are bright enough. Besides when you start going to a higher watt kit you definitely want a relay harness so not to blow the switch or fry any of the wiring, which does happen from time to time.

Ok well DDM is LIFETIME GUARRENTY, there that settles your 30 days hahaha. if i were to choose i'd probably go with a 35W 6k or 8K to offset the led strip on the base model, 6K will be bright, however 8K is brighter with a little more blue tint to it.

Cool, which kit though? 35/55 dual motorcycle:

HID Kits, BMW Aftermarket Bumpers & Lighting, DEPO - DDM Tuning

yes just get the dual headlight 35w kit, FYI the higher the kits in watts i.e 55W the more RF signal is put out causing interference with your bikes computer,
so 35W 6k dual lights is good enough just let me know where install them

How to install hid's on the panigale

Ok after readin several threads and not really getting a definitive answer on if and how to install HID's I decided to take the plunge and do it myself. After some trial and error I came to a very easy and effective way of installin them and in under 30 min. I am sure there are those of you out there that have been in same situation as me and would love a detailed step by step walk through so here you go. Hope this ends up helping everyone interested in installing HID's on the PANIGALE

STEP 1

choose an HID kit and color.

HID Kits, BMW Aftermarket Bumpers & Lighting, DEPO - DDM Tuning

What color Bulbs should I buy? - Help Desk Software powered by DDM Tuning

I decided to go with DDM tuning's motorcycle HID kit as I read great reviews and they offer a lifetime warranty. Not to mention the cost (aprox $75 after shipping to Canada) I have provided links above to the exact product you will need to purchase. NOTE you must buy 35watt as the 55watt can interfere with the elaborate computer on the Panigale. Also bulb type is H11 and I went with the 8000k color as it is a nice mix of white and blue without giving up the much needed light output. I will provide pics to see the color I chose

STEP 2

Take out the lowbeam bulbs. NOTE several people on this forum indicate the small amout of room to remove this bulb. Yes it is a small amount but I was able to remove them with little to no trouble at all. I also did not have to remove anything to get to them. So if you read that you need to remove the front fairing please do not as it is not needed and that is a lot of unnessasary work on your part. The trick to removing the bulb is to move the steering to opposite side to give you optimal room to work with. On the side of the bulb itself there is a clip holding the bulb in place. In order to be able to twist the bulb far enough you must remove the clips and pull the harness from the bulb. NOTE the bottem clip should not be removed. It will be the 2 black clips on each side. After the harness is unclipped you can now remove the bulb. Make sure to look through the clear housing to see how the bulb sits in the housing to make sure you install the new bulb the same.

STEP 3

Now you must hook up the ballasts and lights. Everything is plug and play and no wiring is needes at all. Plug in all the clips and connectors and test the bulb prior to installing as the less contact that is made with the bulb the longer its life. To test the bulb plug in the Panigale harness into the new bulb harness and turn on the bike to see if the bulb harms up. If it does great move on to the next step. If it did not turn on check your clips to see if they are tight and clean. More often then not the harness that plugs directing into the Panigale Lighting harness will be upside down. So if it didnt turn on the first time check all harnesses and flip the main connector upside down. It should fire up. NOTE turn off the bike while doing this as you do not want to fry anything or zap yourself.

STEP 4

Now that you have installed the ballasts and tested them its time to place the light into the housing and hide the wires. Depending on your lighting you may be able to see the slots for the new bulb to slide into. Remove the bulbs from the cases and be sure to leave the white ring as that will keep pressure on the bulb in the housing and prevent it from moving around. Slide the bulbs in the slots and turn the bulb till you can see it is infront of the silver guides inside the clear housing.

STEP 5

Last step is to clean up the wiring and locate the ballast in a clean and close to stock looking as possible. I found a great way to hide 80% of the wiring and leave a decent clean stock look. You will need double sided tape for this install and place a piece of it on the back of the ballast and stick it to the cap covers on top of the light housing. NOTE SEE PIC FOR REFERENCE. Have the wires pointing towards the tank. Now you will have serveral wires dangling and in the way. Pull all the loose wire together and slide it behind the cover beside the fairing. There is a nice gap there and all the wiring should just slip in clean and hidden. There is one more black box that cannot be hidden and if placed right by the ballast it will not interfer with the suspension arms. NOTE look at pic for reference points.

STEP 6

START THE BIKE AND ENJOY

I really hope this guide was helpful and you had no issues installing these lights. I really enjoy mine and have got plenty of positive feedback from fellow riders since installing. This is my first ever forum post and I am sorry if its not 100% clear but I just wanted to help my fellow Panigale owners out. Please refrain from negative comments. Positive ones are always welcome.
