Question HID's on the Pani

Sup fellas. Just wondering if anyone has used a specific HID "kit" on their bikes (or even previous bikes) with good luck. I'm looking for a complete kit for the headlights since finding/buying the LED headlight set up might be a little out of reach atm (budget wise).

I'm trying to achieve that pure "white" look, I assume I should stick with a 6kv @ 55W set up? Not looking for any blue or purple tint to them either. A decent quality kit w/o killing my pocket book is kinda what I'm after. I don't know what style bulbs the 12V/55W are... anyone? H1's?
H11's? 9005's? H3's? H7's? I'll need two kits for both sides and I decided on only doing the low beams, for the time being. Which I think should be enough for night riding.

SO, if anyone could pass on a specific kit to steer towards, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time.

Rocky

* I found these so far: Moto Wheels - Parts - Electrical & lighting - Headlights

*FYI; Posted in another thread as well, to generate as many options as possible. Hope this isn't frowned upon here.

HID's

let me start by saying that an HID system is great However i was told by Kyle Thompson - Shop Foreman - THE BEST DUCATI TECH, that the hid system will interfere with the bikes computer and is not a good idea. However i think if you went with a 35W kit and a 5k H11 bulb you would be fine, but there is always that chance. Try www.ddmtuning.com
you should find what your looking for. Good luck I'd like to know how it turns out!

I run the DDM 35w 5k set on mine and no problems. I would NOT run a 55w. The 5k matches the led strips pretty well, but a 6k might be better. It made a big difference in visibility and it looks great.
I will caution you though, you're going to have a really hard time fitting those in there... My advice would be to shorten the wires. I got mine to work but it is absolutely crammed in there.

By the way, they're H11's and if you're not good with a wrench, have someone else do it. This bike sucks to work on (compared to any previous Ducati)

Good to know! H11's Thats what I needed, I really appreciate it. I think I'll look into a H11 6K/55W set up a little more & shorten up the wires like you stated and go from there.

* Any more companies out there ppl could offer up for me to look into?

Thanks for everyones feedback.

Assuming you went with the slim ballasts, where did you stuff the ballasts? the kit the is easy plug and play and ZIP ties work the best!! i was thinking to go with the 6k 35w kit to be safe.

I wouldnt do the 55W kit BECAUSE it causes interference, the signal from the ballast to the lights causes a humming sound and a signal that can interfere with the MIGHTY 1199 computer, WHICH WILL NOT be covered under warranty.

Do some research for yourself, a 35W 6K kit with no relay, plug and play as long as your hands on smart, you will be fine!!

I recommend the Morimoto 3Five kit over the DDMtuning. It cost more but they are better quality. Close to OEM specs. You get what you pay for.

good to know! grrrr it would have been cool to do a 50w kit at least... so hard to believe 15 little more watts (based on the lower link's 50W system) could bring up codes with the system. It's expensive "trial period" lol I guess it's better to be safe than sorry! 35W @ 6K should blend with my running lights pretty well.

HAHAHA i like this cause this one will go on forever. Bottom line the, i spent 6 months researching HID's and found that any kit regardless over $150 (including wiring harness or any extra's) IS PRICE GOUGING!! Do or say what you want, I trust DDM all day long: price quality, and setup. I can tell you i have installed 10+ kits, and not one has come back with any issue whatsoever. This includes my personal vehicles as well as my prior bike, my bro's bike his friend and so on. I say do the HW i did and have no complaints.

last thing that Morimoto kit might be a better quality, but tell me how your going to stuff all that crap in the 1199 that has no extra room for anything. DiD anyone consider the heat produced from THE BEST MACHINE in the world, or even the hids themselves, i did, part of the research hw.

GOOD Luck let me know how it turns out i always like to see how other products turn out for people.

I guess the first thing is before you even start taking the bike apart, is to see how long the wires are, AND NOT to cut them, they can always be zipped tied later. really is to figure out where to store the ballasts and igniters, 3M double sided sticky tape also works great.

This is important, make sure when you locate a spot for the ballast:
1.You have enough air flow, the bike and the lights produce heat, they will shut off if overheated.
2. You also must locate a spot where they cannot get wet, lite drizzle ok, heavy rain bad.
i stuck one ballast to my coolant bottle, on 1 side then zip tied the other near the frame of the bike, the cbr was similiar, however the fairing got pushed out and another location had to be found.

I haven't done a ducati, but my 07 R6 was a little tricky and my bro's cbr RR had its complications too. Test fit everthing first then put back together.

good luck on this one!

Sorry for the delay in reply!
I stuffed them above the headlights under the plastic piece.
You can follow the instructions HERE
This guy did a pretty good write-up on it with great pictures.

Glad you're doing the 35w kit though, that will work well. I've installed quite a few of those in different vehicles from Land Rovers to MV Agustas, and never an issue.

I did that on my 07 r6 like 3 years ago, waste of time to take everyhting apart, i would fit the hid bulbs first then from underneath the headlight assembly stuff the ballasts, that should save you like 4 hours worth of work!!

If you have a way to do that and make them install clean with no part of the HID setup exposed, post it! Space is very tight on this bike, and I wanted mine to be undetectable, so I put them in the little space I found. Would've been nice to save some hours though

Porsche Barry or Zaid1199, you guys seem to have already converted to HID. I'm thinking of doing the same because I think this bike need more light. I read all this post and would install the DDM kits but it appears we have to choose low or high beam to convert because there just isn't enough room for all 4 bulbs to be changed due to all the kit that comes with it.
Did you guys do just the single bulb kits or go with a hi/low buld set up? You know what I mean?
I thought about doing 2 single bulb kits for the low beams then replacing the hi beams with PIAA Xtreme white bulbs that supposedly put out 110 watts of light on a 55w draw.
Maybe I should just ride in the daytime!! This makes my head hurt.....

I fitted HID lights as my latest mod and after reading this thread I was somewhat hesitant due to discussions about space and wattage and heat and so on.
Let me say from start to finish it took me maybe 1 and half hours for both sides total. I had no problems fitting the wires or installing them. I did not take pictures but could easily remove the fairings and document. The install is invisible.
I bought a set of 35 watt/ 4300k H11 kit with slim line ballasts. There is some buzzing that occurs on start up from the system but that is just the circuit doing its thing, nothing to be alarmed at. It stops after about 20 seconds.
I only removed the side fairings, the air duct covers and the round rubber head light bulb covers. I attached the balast to the ECU wth dual sided sticky tape on the right side. The wires went inside the air duct covers and on the left side the ballast and most of the wiring went where the coolant tank would be if it had them on both sides.
I will get pictures posted when I am back at home(traveling for a few days)

Don't let the install stop you guys, these lights look freaking awesome and they are easy to put in. I did think about heat but this bike is so hot anyway there really isn't much you can do about it.

I paid 90 bucks for them and got them at a local bike shop. Others may be more or less expensive but I didn't have to wait to get them and my A.D.D. likes not having to wait!!!
