Warm Start - Starter Dead

Good morning everyone!

Just thought I would share my frustration. My Base-ABS had the warm start problem from day 1. I just had my first service done and the bike now has 1500 KM on it.

Yesterday I wanted to go back ridding after a short pause... Wouldn't start.

On previous occasions I would lightly open the throttle (as advised by my dealer) OR reboot/reboot.... and eventually it would start. It didn't work and my starter eventually gave up. It is still spinning but it feels like it is not engaged (damaged gear). My dealer said I might loose my bike for 2 weeks. Needless to say I'm pissed since summers in Quebec are very short and I waited a long time for it.

... and yes even in Quebec, up north, we still have warm start problems!

I'm sorry to hear that bud, I had the same issue until my dealer replaced the faulty fuel pump, haven't had the problem since then.
That was 900 miles ago...something you might want to mention when you take it in for service, good luck

that sucks. My started burnt with 1100 miles. it wouldn't even hesitate to do crap. They replaced the entire starter and now with the upgraded one it works like a charm! Good luck with that, hopefully you will be able to get it back sooner than two weeks. Mine took about 3 days.

For those that are having the starters going bad, are you constantly cranking the starter or do you crank it in short bursts giving it appropriate cool down time in between?

Is there actually a different improved spec. starter that your dealers are putting in or is it just a replacement of the same starter?

people that have had new starters put on are saying it's a different part number so guessing it's different/upgraded starter.

Short bursts with reboot in between.
I even checked the voltage before retrying.

Someone on this forum mentioned allowing the bike to idle 30 secs before shutdown.... Anyone tried that ? Might help flush some vapors.

I'm dropping the bike at the dealer tomorrow. Will report back part#.

Have your dealer call Ducati Austin and speak with Bull or Rory about the fuel pump testing to see if your bikes has the same or similar conditions. Let me know if you have any questions but a fuel pump was my fix. Others have had some success with the charcoal canister removal and some claim there is a new map. Please let us know what camp your dealer resides in once you get the bike back. I'd tell them to make sure they had a fuel pump in stock. ;-)

The dealer started working on my bike this morning. They told me the starter was very hard to remove and they have to wait for the removal before ordering a new one. Delays, delays, delays...

The guy working on my bike says he needs to remove the exhaust and rad to remove the starter. Anyone's got feedback on this ?

Looks like I'll loose my bike for 2 weeks after all.

Oddly enough, my dealer said how easy it was relative to previous models. Does that mean that you don't have to do a lot of work? Don't know. I looked at the starter and it doesn't look that hard. Remove both lower fairings and through the use of a wobble socket and extension, the bolts are out. Maybe there is more than appears.

Current parts catalogue for Denso's starter motor is 270.4.013.2A.is this OLD or NEW?

At my dealer here in central Florida they said they have had about 10 bikes come in with hot start issues, my tric included. They have removed the charcoal canister from mine and all the other bikes and it seems to have fix the issues. I use to fear stoping and turning off the bike before now she fires up everytime
