My dealers retort to my comment that my bike is insanely hot is that I should buy the Termis as they put out less heat... Any care to comment on this claim???

well, if there's a richer fueling, you will have cooler combustion in the engine. but, it will still be combustion --> hot. the heat shiedl which comes with the termis might be better for 2 reasons, 1. carbon fiber shields better, than the stock metal one. 2. it sovers more area, so the heat might be guided away better. but if that's more than marginal and worth $3500? you might have to find out. |

Mine was hot before like you hear the complaints about. When I first had my 848 for a few days I thought it was terrible. Then I got used to it and never even thought about it. Same with the 1199. Until I got the full system on. Now it is ROASTING my right ankle and I'm not just being a wimp about it. I rode the other day with some thinner riding pants on and my right thigh was super red when I got off. With my thicker riding jeans that isn't so much of an issue but my foot, its down right painful. | |

No catalytic converters on the aftermarket system, so the mufflers should be a bit cooler.....not that that'll help much in the thigh/seat area.

Mine is definitely cooler with the full system on. 100% guaranteed cooler. Not cool, just cooler. The metal original just heats up, not really the job of a heat shield! The carbon is lined and is much better. Most of the heat comes off the rear cylinder head though. Stop in hot traffic, run your and back and forth, you will soon find the heat source. That's not to say the exhaust is exactly cold either heh heh.

I am interested as well. Theoretically, getting rid of the 2 catalytic converters and running richer fuel map should yield less heat, would in turn make riding even more enjoyable.

It's cooler but not not something that I would call 'noticeable'. . . Running water wetter also makes the engine run cooler as well, but again - I'm not sure I can tell the difference between 212F and 202F. . . . . You can see it in the gauge, but does your crotch tell you its cooler ???

I have full Jet-Hot coated termi's, plus I wear Dainese Norsorex pants along with Dainese Kevlar jeans and Shock Doctor compression shorts with cup. I also have applied Gold Foil to the underside of the Carbon Fiber Heat Shield. Guess what....after an hour riding this afternoon I had red blotches on the inside of the back of my thighs close to my ass. What a literal pain in the ass. My legs felt warm but okay for the ride but the freakin seat is hot. I also applied gold radiant heat foil to the underside of the stock seat. Still ridiculously hot. I still love the bike but this is silly heat.
