Lost my gear pedal today. ![]() Bolt came loose. Fortunately it didn't drop out. Just my luck, two fellow Ducati owners stopped and loaned me an allen key. I now carry a 5mm in the toolkit! Now threadlocked, so hopefully wont happen again. May have to replace the small arm on the spline as I think the threads are damaged. Folks should check theirs. I had only covered 160 miles. Al. |

I had a minor breakdown today too! Multistrada fine...1199 Tri fine....748R fine...all dodgy Italian temperamental beasts.....Range Rover 6 months old, alternator packs in, battery goes dead, middle of nowhere! Some interesting things happen when a 2012 model Rangey loses voltage, it threw ten or so warnings, gearbox failure, abs failure, airbag failure etc. my personal favourite though was when the 'forward assist' threw a hissy fit for no reason. For those who are unfamiliar with 'forward assist' its linked to the radar controlled cruise control but is always on regardless. It brakes like fuck if it thinks your going to stuff it into something stationary. While trying to clear all the errors on the dashboard it threw the anchors on at 50mph for no apparent reason! Poor fella behind got a shock! Not as much as me. Bollocks to that, pulled over switched it off waited for Land Rover assist. The 150 mile round trip for dinner tonight on the Multistrada by comparison was a breeze! Very reliable these Ducati's not like that British built tat! |

I had exactly the same thing happen to me, although with the DP rear sets. I thought it was an isolated instance. It essentially locked my gearing so that I was unable to downshift. However, I was impressed how the bike pulled from 3rd gear.

Somebody needs to make a sticky note. There was at least one other bike with the same problem. People should also be checking the exhaust plug from the rear cylinder. You know... that nice round hole that points at the plug. Make sure it's tight too. There have been 3 so far with the hole blowing hot exhaust onto your ankle area.

Mine did the same thing a couple of weeks ago, but it was the bolt on the back end of the shift rod instead of the front. Started noticing it was hard to upshift so I stopped to check the linkage. Fortunately didn't lose the bolt altogether and was able to get it back in since I'd stuck a few extra allens and a 10mm in the underseat kit in place of the plug wrench. Suffice to say a lot of my small bolts have been rechecked and had low-strength threadlock applied. And on the topic of shift linkage rods, has anyone been able to adjust their shifter height by turning the linkage rod like you would on any other bike? Loosened the nuts on both ends like normal (& per the manual), but that rod won't budge using the cast in wrench flats at the back end. I notice it's got more wrench flats cast into in the middle of the rod, but of course they're directly behind the side plates that the rearsets mount to. Gotta love it... |

Happened again yesterday. This is even after the shop replaced the arm, and the bolt. Bike has only covered 450 miles so far. I'm going to speak to the shop about a longer bolt and put a nylock on the back. I've threadlocked the replacement now. Should probably have done it sooner. I'd advise any owner to put a 5mm allen key in the toolkit. Last edited by alb; August 19th, 2012 at 01:33 PM. |

How do you gain access to it if the clutch hydraulic line is in the way?

Will check all my bolts and re-tighten them!
