Component: STEERING

Summary:
Ducati is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 1199 Panigale motorcycles manufactured from March 16, 2012, through July 12, 2012 . Due to an incorrect assembly tolerance, the Uniball bearing on the damper rod eyelet could slip out of its seat on the Ohlins steering damper.
Consequence:
The steering damper can detach from its mounting point which can lead to loss of control of the motorcycle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy:
Ducati will notify owners, and authorized dealers will install a special washer at the steering damper's mounting point, free of charge. Ducati has not provided a notification schedule. Consequence:
The steering damper can detach from the steering head which can lead to loss of control of the motorcycle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy:
Ducati will notify owners, and authorized dealers will remove both screws, clean the threads, apply the proper amount of Loctite, and tighten to the proper torque settings, free of charge. I *think* all recalls in N.A. go by VIN, even if all the VIN are included.

Your VIN on the list, you are owed a written notification....maybe a phone call but not a must I don't think.

Doesn't mean you don't receive a call from the dealer but a formal recall notice is supposed to be executed by the manufacturer with a written notification to the owner on record.

For the .gov website:

How will I be notified if a recall is ordered or initiated?

Within a reasonable time after the determination of a safety defect or noncompliance, manufacturers must notify, by first-class mail, all registered owners and purchasers of the affected vehicles of the existence of the problem and give an evaluation of its risk to motor vehicle safety. The manufacturer must explain to consumers the potential safety hazards presented by the problem. Names of vehicle owners are obtained from State motor vehicle offices. The letter must also instruct consumers on how to get the problem corrected, remind them that corrections are to be made at no charge, inform them when the remedy will be available, how long the remedy will take to perform, and whom to contact if there is a problem in obtaining the free recall work. If you do not receive a letter of notification from the vehicle manufacturer but think that your vehicle might be involved in a recall campaign, call the Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or 800-424-9393, visit the NHTSA Home | Safercar -- National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Web site, or contact the manufacturer or your dealer.

Is there a listed VIN range to check if the effected bikes are under the recall?

I just did it myself...simple fix for the "steering damper mount recall".

I simply removed my steering damper mounts, applied loctite in blue and reinstalled damper. Problem solved...

Regarding the Bowden (flapper valve) cable...mine has been removed as I have Termignoni slip-ons which requires the removal of the cable and servo..... Problem solved.

That's not the issue with the damper, it needs the penny washer because the ball joint bearing can come loose in the damper and the end of the damper slides over the bolt to come off
It is best to get the bike checked off the recall by the dealer also

It's a 30sec job to fit the washer and Loctite the mounting bolt .... unless you need the heat shield.

So, buy some Termi's and save time
