New springs?

No matter the electronic settings, this suspension is just VERY stiff. I weigh about 160lbs with gear. I'm thinking I need a softer spring. I hear the stock forks are ok, but rear is too stiff. Any recommendations on whether I need new fork and/or shock springs? Or has anybody my weight done this?

I weigh 190 and the spring is too stiff for me so I would suspect a new spring is on order for you. Sucks to have to shell out the money but it will make a big difference. I track my bike and the stiff spring makes setup difficult and frustrating.

That is what I suspected. I'll see how long I can take it with jacked up DES settings. Because you're right, my ass is still bleeding from what I paid for the bike. Really don't want to be dumping money into it.

Contact other member Rich (Austin Racing) he's experimenting with spring rates.

Thanks Kam - If you don't mind can you provide your weight current spring rate and new spring rate suggested.

On behalf of all the fatties on this board, I'm actually pleased to be reading this

I usually have to go to great lengths to get something even close to a decent suspension setup for my lardy ass.

Any of our heavier riders care to comment on the spring rate on the Pani? (front and back)
Has anyone swapped out because they are too soft?
The reason this thread came up in a search was because I was looking for info on getting springs for my weight but it seems like I may not have to after reading this. (I weigh about 270 lbs)

Anyone got a spring rate matrix diagram for the 1199? (weight vs rate)

I presume you've switched from F (flat) to P (progressive) rate on the shock base to soften it out?

Hi Marcoma

Contact Kyle Racing they will be able to sort you out. You can also visit RaceTech's website and look at their suspension charts (1199 not available yet).

Base forks 1.0 kg/mm
Base Rear 9.3kg/mm (I think...somewhere on the forum)

I weigh about 245lbs without gear and have upgraded my rear shocks to Ohlins with a 105NM spring on their recommendation. I believe the front is also too soft for anyone over 100kg/220lbs or so, but it obviously depends on use and speed. My base forks have a lot of preload (8 turns from no preload) and on track it is still bottoming out, but on the road no such issues.

In conclusion if you enjoy track use or are faster onroad than most of other riders, then you will benefit more from a firmer spring...but at 275lbs you most defnitely notice the difference between correct and stock springs.

I did. I had them change it before I even took possession of the bike. And I've inquired of my shop of new spring but they don't seem to have any information yet on what I can swap out. You'd think they'd be a bit more enthusiastic about me wanting to spend more money there.

Rick - I would imagine Ohlins have a 1.0 spring that'd fit and suit you just fine.

Zoenala - I doubt I'll be taking the Pani to the track (have a dedicated Gixxer for that) but I do ride the canyons pretty....errrr.....enthusiastically, shall we say......

Cheers for the input Guys!
