TC - is it working?

Mine is set on 5 in sport mode. I sat on the damp grass tonight with the front wheel braked and happily spun the rear up in 1st gear - not being daft - just an experiment.

No lights, no nothing, yet sometimes when I turn tight at a junction or hit a manhole cover, I get the orange strip light up momentarily on top of the dash.

Is this normal behaviour? I expected not to be able to "burn out".

Good question, no idea. Maybe the front wheel has to be at least spinning/moving?

^^ This. It has to be over certain speed in order to work. Also, if you are taking a turn and you see the light go off that means its working. Last saturday at the track it was going nuts and I could actually feel the rear end sliding and the throttle cutting in the middle slightly. If it was'nt for that TC I would have lowsided at least 76 times on saturday.

LOL - Thought the same exact thing on the track. Fast 3rd gear right turn on full throttle and the DTC light on full for a good second or 2. Without DTC high side would have been definite. But I did the same thing over and over and never was concerned. It really is confidence inspiring. Just be careful if you hop on another bike without all the safety.

I've had my light flashing a fair bit on the go. I leave mine set at level 4 but think I need to drop it to 3 as it does seem to be a little restrictive.

Yup definitely feel like this bike has dumbed me down but it works and it is so much fun.

My first trackday I set it to 4 in sport mode. After watching my videorecording I noticed it went on a lot more than I could recall . When the TC kicks in it is taking away power so I figured it was slowing me down.

On the next trackday I set it to 3 in sportmode. On certain parts it was still activated ( one particular corner at nearly 120 mph, knee on the ground ) and I could feel the bike settling.

I changed my tires the next time to the same tire as they use in the Superstock in WSBK,Pirelli SC2. They provide enormous amounts of grip compared to the standard tire. The traction control did almost never come on.

I've read that the TC 1 setting was developed with these tires so I could lower it to 1 but I'm keeping it safe at 3. In theory I could lower it to 2 because in 3 it doesn't even activate

The DTC system levels are mapped to specific tires, in order to get the most out of it you should have it set to the appropriate level to match your tires or you're just getting a false sense of value from it. Level 1 is for RACE tires, specifically Pirelli SC2 compound race tires. If you're running those tires, put it in Level 1. Raising the TC to a higher level will result in the system virtually never activating because your tires have way more grip that the DTC system is expecting based upon the level you've set it to. Level 2 is for the OEM Supercorsa SP tires for fast track riding. Level 3 is for the OEM Supercorsa SP tires for intermediate track riding. Level 4 is for the OEM Supercorsa SP tires for novice track riding or very aggressive street riding with throttle in 195 HIGH. Level 5 and 6 are for SPORT street riding with the throttle set to 195 LOW, level 7 is for RACING RAIN tires, and Level 8 is for street or track rain riding with OEM tires. I know a common misconception is that the levels are all just progressively offering more TC control as you raise the level, but that's not the case, each level has a specific purpose it was designed for and if you want it to respond consistently then you should use the level that matches your tires and riding conditions.
