Folks, Hi, I think this has been hashed here, but not sure if to conclusion since I can't find it in search. Can you tell me if it is possible to install the LED headlights in a Base 1199 w/ ABS? I think I read the problem is in the wiring harness. Has anyone tried? Or does anyone know for sure if this can or cannot be done. That's pretty much the main thing I would like from the S model. Yes, I realize there are other improvements in the S over the Base, but that's the one I'm interested in.... Any advice appreciated. There should be a sticky on this topic. |

I would compare the part manuals for the two bikes; it'll show the harness and the upper cowl area. They are available online.

Theoretically possible, and I'm sure someone will do it at some point just to prove it, but it would be a waste of money IMO. You'd at least need the entire headlight unit and the plastic shroud piece as well as the wiring harness. I'm not certain if there are any other electronic changes/ECU changes required, but it's possible that you could buy all of the parts and plug it in and it still won't work. I asked this question at the Panigale training and the word from Ducati was "don't do it". Would be a lot more cost effective to just get some brighter bulbs.

That's what I was looking for. Thanks for clarification. For some reason dealers in FL can not seem to answer that question...

Great question STW, anyone want to chime in on their thoughts on best bulb for base 1199's? Nice super brighte clean white light.... And I realize this one has been mentiond in previous thread, but seems like a good segue for those who were contemplating the LED route (which I am not going to pursue now). :-) |

Wiring harness $1301.99 Light unit itself $1726.99 6 hours of labor $570 @$95/hr But it can be done! I choose to go with Xebright 1200 Panigale 55W 6000K HID kit for $79 and use the money for my BST carbon fiber wheels. The HID is almost the same color as the parking LED lights. Can't tell the difference during the day at all. At night it's a split hair difference. 5000K would be the same. I installed my friends XEBRIGHT 5000K bulbs into my Pani to check it out and it pretty much matches dead on at night. But i like the slight contrast of the 6000K it slightly brings out the parking light. That yellow halogen was pretty awful looking compared to the LED parking lights. Ordering another set for the high beams. The down side of having the LED is that the unit is pretty heavy with those heatsinks. PIAA crystals Halogens are really good but for $29 more the HID with longer life but definitely not as long as LED's which are pretty much lifetime.
