Loose Chain

After the 1st service, notice the chain is hitting the exhaust, a further look, noticed the swingarm pinbolts were completely loose, Shame on dealer.

Went and got the chain tool thinking it's a quick fix, that eccentric hub just won't budge, so before I cause serious damage to myself or the bike. better just take it in.

You may have to tap the spanner wrench with a hammer. If that doesn't work, and you want to take care of it, get a large flathead and a hammer. Just sayin'... that's how I had to do it before I got my spanner wrench.

I Ride: 1199 Tric
My hub was also jammed.

Spray it with WD40, then use the spanner, or tap it free, as suggested.

make sure the hub pinch bolts are completely loose as even a little drag will make it tough to turn the eccentric.

I'm flabbergasted with some of the horrible dealer experiences some of you guys have had, I've been very fortunate over the years to have two great dealers I've worked with.

pinch bolts are completely off, tried tapping with a mallet, won't budge. do you need to remove the rear wheel? theoretically i see why that's necessary.

No, mine was very stiff. I had to really hit the screwdriver with the hammer hard to get it going lol.

wondering tho, on some of the aftermarket eccentric wrenches, some are thicker than others (over the years, ducati has had a couple different width eccentrics, if your wrench is too thick it might be binding. Do you have any free play, ie does it slip into the notches easily with clearance side to side?

Nope most definitely need don't need to remove the wheel to adjust the chain.

I also recommend you use one with multiple teeth like the CD one I just ordered. Although, I doubt that has anything to do with it. If you can't get it with a screwdriver and hammer, something is wrong.

There is a recall for the swing arm pivot bolts backing out and the rear eccentric jammed. Contact your dealer ASAP.

I had the same problem..though minor.

What I did:

1. loosened the Eccentric Pinch bolts all the way...
2. Inserted a big Flathead screwdriver where the canal or opening is... where pinch bolts are located..pried it open a bit a few milimeters and sprayed WD40 (cover the rear disc rotor with a Rag as not to get WD40's overspray on it).
3. Let it set for 10 minutes...
4. Use a dull flathead screwdriver to tap the eccentric notches on the hub just to make the eccentric hub budge and get out of that sticky situation. Once you have noticed it budged slightly...
5. Use the eccentric chain adjusting spanner wrench tool to tighten or loosen. To tighten - turn eccentric hub counter clockwise...too loosen chain - turn eccentric tool - clockwise.

Another tip. I bought a "STEEL" eccentric chain tool spanner wrench...avoid the aluminum ones... I welded a 12inch flat bar extension to get better leverage.

Now I have had no issues adjusting my chain tension.

The Hub does stick...you will have to bring your bike to your dealer...they will completely remove the hub...re-grease it and re-instal it...once they're done with that... BUY A STEEL ECCENTRIC CHAIN SPANNER TOOL, WELD AN ADDITONAL FOOT OF FLATBAR...TO GET MORE LEVERAGE TO TIGHTEN OR LOOSEN YOUR CHAIN.

I Ride: Street '12 1199S/ABS. Track '12 1199S/ABS.
There is a dealer "recall" for them to check the ease of spin at service. Apparently factory noted some bikes demonstrated slight extrusion of material into this tight space causing drag.
Mine checked out OK, but another guy's bike at the shop was hard to turn. Problem was solved by disassembly and thorough surface cleaning.

i have to say the Ducati spanner tool is crap.

88713.1038 - basic C-spanner, no teeth

what the 1199 parts catalog shows
88713.3211 - C spanner with teeth

Went by the dealer today and they took care of it as well as give me credit for the wrong C-spanner tool 88713.1038. Unfortunately the correct C-spanner for 1199 88713.3211 is $107, special order only, but the parts lady told it's the same as the Diavel and Multi1200. Bravo Proitalia!

Took a peek at the service, they had take the rear wheel off to get the hub moving, probably had to lube it.
