It could've been just me....but i felt like the bike wasnt the same anymore....torque, throttle response, horsepower, etc....it felt slower....didnt have the same snap to me like when it was newer years ago...it couldve been me getting used to it.....took it to the dealership....they said my bike was fast as shyt and im just getting used to it....i know my bike tho....i think its diff when your riding a bike everyday n when someone else just takes a quick run on it....my 749 always felt better n still does....still has that snappy feeling....i dont know ....thats why i sold the 1098....n i dont miss it at all....thought i would but i dont at all lol

Gotcha. I've been thinking a lot about doing this hard run-in thing too (not dyno for me because that costs money). Rich from Austin Racing had some good advice on how to do it. I think I'm in the camp that believes the manufacturer recommendations are solely to minimize warranty claims, but of course more evidence is always nice. Been a lot of debate on here on the subject. Let us know what you do and how it comes out. Seems like the guys who've dyno run theirs in are reporting less of an issue with smoking.

I had my dyno break-in completed yesterday and it is a completely different bike. It is a beast, much louder and more pull. The termi full exhaust is much more noticeable now.

I'm 10 minutes from Philly. I use Ferracci. I will be insisting they dyno break mine in. Good people there. Have you tried them? And how funny I traded my 1098 for the same reason besides I finally blew the motor at 30k miles lol

I had the full system stuck on right outa the crate and then rolled out back onto the dyno. They run same as stated in the other break in threads. Hard pulls/engine breaking, ramping up the revs and cooling in between runs. 40 miles total, and zero smoke. Pulls like a train.

Sorry, it was a dyno break-in that read like a street break in (that's what I get for skimming). But here's the post from Rich22: "When we run a bike in on the dyno the most important is the 1st 50 miles to seal up the rings to the bores. Let it rev freely in 2nd/3rd gears increasing the top revs every 10 miles upto 9-10,000rpm. Let it decelerate as fast. Keep this up for 150-200 miles then hit max revs through the gears. This seals up the bores and the bike ends up with better compression, lower oil usage and more power. We tested bikes that were run in on the dyno vs bikes run in softly softly on the road, the dyno bikes consistently make 5bhp more power. We tested on RSV4, ZX10R, BMWS1000RR Running mine in like this so lets see how it does." It seems like this would be possible on the street too, no? Might piss a few people off that are following you with rapid decal though, haha, so you would need back roads, little traffic to get close to these recommendations. Or by rev freely does he mean keep it at 6000rpm for 10 miles, then 7000rpm for the next 10 miles, etc.? __________________ Last edited by jjmontesanto; May 17th, 2012 at 03:03 PM. |
