I always used to brush a little gear-oil on my chain. Guess its a bit old-school, so would love to hear peoples views. |

I use wd 40 (just sprayed on a cloth) and wipe the chain down. I use the dupont DuPont Motorcycle Chain Lubes for 2012 - webBikeWorld THe good thing is it doesnt fling and doesnt cake badly. Bad news is you need to lube more frequently Chris |

Dude the bike is brand new! I wouldn't be messing with that chain for awhile yet! Unless you goal is to get all the stuff off that comes on a brand new chain and flies up onto your tail section?

Need to be careful you don't use anything that will rot the rubber o rings in the chain, plain old parafin is good for cleaning. Get a kettenmax too, they do a great job.

I use the same for my Ducs Just bought a can of Lucas chain lube part# 10393. Is supposed to be the best for motorcycle chains....and yes, you should do the cleaning/lubing at least every 500 miles if you want your chain and sprockets to last. | |

I was told no Wd-40. It will dry out the rubber o-rings. I use Kerosene and will look into PDL

I have always used kerosene since I have access to it working in the turbine engine field. However, when I took my bike in for the first service I was amazed how quickly the mechanic was using Motul Cleaner and lube. Kerosene always took (me) a long time whereas the Motul was quick and effortless. It's my first choice now.

Hi guys, I don't yet own a panigale and that is why I am here gathering info when I stumbled across this thread. I use Motul chain cleaner and chain lube (road) on my street triple and zx-10r, after moving here from the uk 3 years ago and trying many different variations I have found this type to have the best anti fling properties (if applied properly) and as of this moment I haven't experienced any damage to the x-rings. One thing I would add though, every third clean I remove the front sprocket cover and clean in there thoroughly, it's the only way to stop the lube gathering in this area, if you get a build up here it drips out of the bottom when hot, I don't think there is a lube out there that wouldn't do this when hot. Granted, I do live in a place where it doesn't really rain so I haven't tried the extreme lubes, but for me and my situation motul has been the best. |

| Senior Member Joined: May 2012 From: Philippines Posts: 304 Thanks: 16 | YOU CAN USE WD40....for as long as its used for cleaning purposes only. After using WD40....dry it up by using an old towel and spray any non-fling type chain lube/chain wax that is good for O-Rings AFTER using WD40. Never use WD40 alone without the follow up spray of a good branded chain lube/wax. There are many good brands, like Maxima, PJ1, Motorex, Motul etc...etc... just make sure they are the non-fling type and made specifically for O-rings. I have been doing it for years and my chain life and sprocket lasts more than the recommended replacement schedules. Wurth Dry Chain Lube - I swear by this stuff, no mess at all. They even have a tiny 150ml can for overnighters... One tip is to put it on when the chain is warm so that it can work right in. |
