My inital code was already set so I need to have it reset at the 600 mile service.

One other thing that I found interesting, the owners manual says that the dealer needs to reset the service engine/oil change light after each oil change. Anyone have any info on this? It would suck having to take bike to a dealer to reset a flag in the CPU after each oil change.

nope that's the way all ducs work, if you take it to an indep. shop that has vdst software (I'm not sure it's out for the 1199 yet) they can reset.

Also, you can buy single model vdst software for individual model bikes, enables you to reset tps, etc. read/clear errors. about $250.

code is just for key chip failure.Pin can be easily reset from the dashboard. No need to rotate keys. All keys that came with the bike should work without pin. Simple.

Pin code allows you to start your bike if there is a problem with your key and computer syncing up. I have to have my dealer reset mine. I don't have access to the original pin screen , just the change pin screen. According to the manual , dealer must reset it.
Call your dealer and ask for the code. Mine was set by my dealer as well and I called them so I could set the code to my own value.

The keys are identical, each with a transponder to deactivate the immobiliser.

If they mess up, its pin-code time to override the immobiliser - thats it.
