You can start the bike without a key I'm told?

You still need the key and can only take advantage of this option if you've set a code on the dashboard, otherwise, your stuffed and would need to try the other key. That's nice that you can start it that way when the electronics fail to recognize the key. I had a car (VW) where the spare key wasn't recognized when my wife tried to drive it. Had to have it towed to a dealership, and it cost some ~$300 to have it all sorted.

That sucks I would think you would be able to drive it keyless like the multistrada. Ohhh I forgot its for weight savings lol. Well at least there is a plan B if the key fails.

If you keep your spare key seperate from your primary key , as you should for obvious reasons , then your second key won't recongize the code that your computer is putting out. So , if you lose your first key , you can enter your PIN , and use your backup key to start the bike. At that point , your second key will be in sinc with your computer for the next start up. At least that's the way I understood it.

![]() This is standard practise to ensure your keys both stay in sync, so WTF ![]() Oh well, so who's gonna set their code to 1199

I read thru the manual on that. I'm not sure that's what they're saying. It seems like they're saying to do the starting process (turn on the ignition?) and switch out to another key. It's very confusing the way it's worded but it wouldn't make sense for your spare key not to be useable. Chris |

"Warning - It is also advisable to use only one of the keys to start the motorcycle." Now, given you can only fit one key in the slot ![]() Unless they mean not to have the second-key in close proximity, like on the same key-ring. That would def make sense!!

Your spare key would be usable , after you enter your pin.

I thought the pin code was to do nothing more than lock any changes through the dash?

Pin code allows you to start your bike if there is a problem with your key and computer syncing up. I have to have my dealer reset mine. I don't have access to the original pin screen , just the change pin screen. According to the manual , dealer must reset it.

I set mine it should come from the dealer with no code in there so you start with a clean sheet. |
