New member here just wanted to say hello, fell in love with the 1199 a few days ago at the NYC motorcycle show, I always loved the way it looked but when I sat on it and felt so comfortable I knew I had to have one lol. I called a few local dealers over the last couple days and got a really good price on a a base 2012 no abs and just wanted to see what you guys think about it. The dealer said he would do $16k on the bike no freight or prep charges, so basically just tax and plates/registration. Seems like a good deal to me, none of the other dealers would even come close to that. I currently have a 2010 R6 which I bought new, it was my first streetbike but I've been riding quads and dirt bikes since I was a little kid, I'm 26 now. I feel like I've worn the r6 out, I don't do any track days but I like to go out on some of the local highways at night when no ones around and really open the bike up for a while and the r6 just isn't fast enough. I do some drag racing with my car that makes a little over 900rwhp so I'm used to high horsepower and think I need to step up to a faster bike, kinda find it strange to have a streetcar that's faster than my bike lol Anyway sorry for the long post and I look forward to becoming an 1199 owner and contributing to the forum. |

Welcome , the price you got quoted seems to be pretty good from what I know, unless you want to wait till the 2013 model arrives but for these you probably have to pay list price.

Welcome and congrats on your new bike! Too bad you didn't get to demo, but I'm sure you'll love the bike. It's sounds like you shopped around, but if that price is before tax, etc... It seems a little high for a leftover '12. But then again you're on the east coast, so prices are a little higher. The ergos are great, the most comfortable bike I've owned in fact. It's light and handles like a 600cc bike, likes to turn so be sure where you want to go! But, the power is crazy good! Throttle control is key. By the way, not sure that tooling around as fast as you can go late at night is a good idea. But, hey what do I know. |

Welcome to the forum! Base is definitely worth the money. That price sounds about right. But there is a base ABS in Florida for the same price. That's just about it. I take the bike to the drag track too sometimes. Drag racing is a lot of fun. I also race here and there on the street.

Didn't they discontinue the base w/o abs for 2013? That would be a + 1K from the start. Anyway welcome Cobra. There's a wealth of info on this forum.

Don't forget to get the Race or Comfort seat, that stock seat is just wretched.

Even on a bike in which it isn't even designed for it's just a dump truck load of fun! You get in the zone and just keep getting back in line for hours on end and it only costs $25. PLUS when I ride out on the street the throttle control carries over and I don't even think about it. I know exactly what it's gonna do at each RPM.
